If Alexander ‘The Great’ beats Ilia Topuria and Conor McGregor, he’ll have defeated every UFC fighter to ever hold the 145 pound title.
Alexander Volkanovski may have lost his Featherweight title in February, but he’s still chasing big fights, records and distinctions. One distinction he hopes to lock down over the next few years of his career is greatest Featherweight of all time.
With five successful title defenses, he’s already right there. But, he feels he’ll be undeniable if he succeeds at beating all the fighters who have ever held UFC’s 145-pound title. He doesn’t have much more work to do: he’s already defeated Jose Aldo, Max Holloway (three times) and interim champion, Yair Rodriguez.
Completing this side-quest involves getting a “W” back against Ilia Topuria … and Conor McGregor?
Alexander Volkanovski is adamant that his next featherweight fight will be for the belt, but wouldn’t mind taking “an exciting fight” in the lightweight division to stay active
He also says he’d be willing to step in on short notice and fight Conor McGregor at #UFC303

“Of course, no matter how much money you’re making, there’s always room for more,” he told AllStar Sports. “With a Conor McGregor fight, that [money] would be incredible, I don’t know what’s going to happen with that [Chandler] situation but that’s a fight that I would love to have.
“It’s something that I’ve always wanted, there’s still a bit of a story there in the fact that he’s the only other Featherweight champion that I haven’t fought,” he added.
While getting the Featherweight title is definitely still on his mind, he’s currently hoping to score big fights in other weight classes while waiting for Topuria Max Holloway to battle it out sometime later this year.
It doesn’t get much bigger than McGregor, but waiting around for him is a fool’s game. We prefer his other idea: fun fights against Dustin Poirier, who has declared he’s interested in fighting at least one more time, or Charles Oliveira.
Those are definitely better than another last-minute step in.
