Another one bites the dust.

Not long after fans learned that Valentina Shevchenko was no longer fighting Joanne Calderwood at UFC 251 in Perth, Australia, UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski revealed that he too, was bailing on the June 6 fight card.

It’s hard to fight when you can’t train (just ask this guy).

“I’m in a weird position where I’m being quarantined,” Volkanovski told ESPN. “Not being able to train properly; not being able to get over to New Zealand … so are we still going to be doing that card? I just don’t think that’s a good idea for me, especially coming off a broken hand. For me to try and overcome an injury and then go into a camp, and not be fully prepared in the camp, it’s not a good idea. So I don’t think the Perth card will go ahead, but if it does I don’t know the chances of me being on it.”

The current UFC schedule remains in limbo as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

That hasn’t stopped promotion president Dana White from trying to keep his pay-per-view (PPV) cards on the air. In fact, White and Co. are adamant that UFC 249 on April 18 is still on the books, despite the fact that no city or venue has been finalized.

Stay tuned.
