Former WEC vet, and IFL featherweight champ, Wagney ‘The Silencer’ Fabiano (14-3) is set to join Bellator Fighting Championships for the promotions season six featherweight tournament.
Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney announced the fighters signing on Twitter (@bjornrebney) a few days ago, and was later confirmed by MMAjunkie.com who spoke to sources close to the fighter.
Fabiano now joins British featherweight Ronnie Mann (21-4-1) in the 145-lbs tournament, which is set to kick off this March on MTV2.
Fabiano made six appearances in the WEC cage following the collapse of the International Fight League. ‘The Silencer’ went 4-2 losing his last appearance in November 2010 at WEC 53 to Joseph Benavidez via second round guillotine choke. The Brazilian was not picked up by the UFC after the merger. Fabiano did make one more attempt to get back into the UFC by trying out for season fourteen of “The Ultimate Fighter” reality series, but was turned down for that too.
Now he makes his way back to television and will compete against seven other featherweight fighters for the $100,000 contract and a shot at the Bellator title.
