Chris Weidman doesn’t have a set plan yet, but Johnny Walker would like to be the next guy across the Octagon from him.
Johnny Walker and Chris Weidman are both coming off major setbacks. Walker was stopped by Corey Anderson at UFC 244, derailing his path to a light heavyweight title shot against Jon Jones. And Weidman was knocked out by Dominick Reyes in his 205-pound debut on the same night. Both are looking at where to go from here. And if Walker gets his way, he could be facing off with Weidman next.
Weidman was a guest on The MMA Show earlier this week and stated that he’d like to return to the cage in February or March. After hearing that, Walker took to Twitter to politely call out the former middleweight champion:
Hey @chrisweidman , that’s funny, I also want to fight in February or March! What a coincidence! What date do you prefer? Let’s dance! @danawhite @mickmaynard2 @ufc_brasil @ufc
Ei Chris Weidman, que coincidência!… https://t.co/UR9jKcJsaG

Weidman didn’t take long to respond, but it might not be what Walker wanted to hear:
Hey ! Thanks for the call out! I will let you know when I decide what I wanna do next. https://t.co/7yjVHarPoZ

Walker, to his credit, responded to that very respectfully:
Thank you for the quick answer champ! I’ll be waiting and ready for any date! See you soon #Godblessyou https://t.co/0CGmzYX23c

Walker (17-4, 3-1 UFC) had a nine-fight win streak snapped by Anderson, while Weidman (14-5, 10-5 UFC) has now lost five out of his last six, only picking up a win over Kelvin Gastelum in the midst of that.
Meanwhile, Jones seemingly picked Reyes over Anderson and will take him on for the 205-pound title in the main event of UFC 247 on February 8th in Houston.
