A bold claim from a fighter who has already been finished three times in his career.
Streaking Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight phenom, Johnny Walker, wants to cement his place in the mixed martial arts (MMA) history books by defeating reigning 205-pound champion and top pound-for-pound fighter, Jon Jones.
True, “Bones” was already defeated by Johnnie Walker back in 2012, but the Brazilian wants this loss to take place inside the Octagon and he certainly doesn’t want it to end by way of disqualification, something that gave Matt Hamill a controversial victory in late 2009.
“It would make me very happy to fight against him,” Walker told The Body Lock. “I would beat him. I hope I don’t finish the fight very quickly because I want to enjoy the fight, enjoy the moment, because this is my dream coming true. I hope Jon Jones keeps the belt. I like ‘Marreta.’ He’s a Brazilian but I hope Jon Jones wins because I want to beat Jon Jones.”
Walker (17-3) has captured nine straight wins with eight violent finishes and has certainly looked like the future at 205 pounds. That said, the Brazilian has also been fighting the cream of the crap, with his most notable victory coming against the No. 14-ranked Misha Cirkunov.
There isn’t much to be said about Jones (24-1, 1 NC) that hasn’t already been said a thousand times before. He takes the world’s greatest combatants, like heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier, and makes them look ordinary. “Bones” is simply the greatest fighter on the planet, in any weight class.
With that in mind, who likes Walker for the upset?
