Check out the latest from HBO Boxing as they look at the history behind the all-Mexico showdown coming up.
Cinco de Mayo is just around the corner. The holiday celebrating Mexican heritage has taken on a new meaning in the combat sports world in recent years as one of the most sought after boxing dates on the calendar.
This year, the big boxing Cinco de Mayo showdown sees Middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez taking on Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in a catchweight fight. For Canelo, it’s his second year as the star attraction of the Cinco de Mayo fight, as he took on Amir Khan last year. But this year, he takes on fellow Mexican fighter Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. – son of Mexico’s legendary champion.
HBO’s latest promotional video for the fight focuses squarely on this Mexico vs. Mexico Cinco de Mayo angle. Canelo/Chavez Jr.: A Fighting Tradition takes a look at how this fight fits into the rich history of Mexican boxing and what it means for both men. As you can expect from pretty much all HBO Boxing content, it’s a well-produced, must-watch piece to get you ready for fight night.
Canelo/Chavez Jr.: A Fighting Tradition is available as a live stream above, or click here to watch it on HBO’s YouTube page.
