The UFC middleweight division is a hot mess.
Less than three months ago, the winner of Michael Bisping vs. Georges St-Pierre was supposed to defend the 185-pound title against interim titleholder Robert Whittaker.
St-Pierre won, then bailed after succumbing to colitis. Bisping tried to rebound with a win over Kelvin Gastelum in Shanghai, but got KTFO for his efforts. As for Whittaker, he was sidelined with Staph infection.
That leaves former champion Luke Rockhold and top contender Yoel Romero to slug it out in the reworked UFC 221 pay-per-view (PPV) main event in Perth, Australia, anchored by a hard-hitting heavyweight co-headliner between Mark Hunt and Curtis Blaydes.
The rest of the main card (see it), which takes place this Sunday “Down Under” but airs Saturday night (Feb. 10, 2018) from inside Perth Arena as a result of the discrepancy in time zones, is merely “meh.”
