Ben Askren once famously crushed two watermelons online in a video that went viral amongst the mixed martial arts (MMA) community. If you’ve never seen it, check that out here:
Now, former UFC women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg has attempted the challenge. Cyborg did so after a community outreach project in South Africa, which she documented on her official YouTube channel.
Unfortunately, Cyborg was unsuccessful, and called shenanigans on Askren’s video after she herself was unable to do so.

Cyborg hasn’t competed since her December knockout defeat to Amanda Nunes. “The Lioness” defeated Cyborg for the 145-pound title, becoming the UFC’s first-ever female “Champ Champ.” As for what’s next for Cyborg, that remains to be seen.
She has expressed interest in rematching Nunes, who is preparing for a bantamweight title defense against Holly Holm. It will be interesting to see if Nunes decides to jump back up to 145 pounds for a rematch with her fellow countrywoman.
