Junior dos Santos will look to pick up a much-needed win against up-and-coming UFC Heavyweight Tai Tuivasa at the upcoming UFC Fight Night 142 event this Saturday (Nov. 1, 2018) in Adelaide, Australia.
Before then, let’s take a look back at one of “Cigano’s” most impressive wins inside the Octagon. Back in 2012, Junior found himself staring down former division champion Frank Mir at UFC 146 in “Cigano’s” first-ever title defense.
And it was a dominant performance by Junior indeed.
After keeping the fight standing for the majority of round one, “Cigano” battered and bruised Mir from pillar to post at will. Frank simply didn’t have an answer for the boxer. In round two, Junior continued the assault, landing one blow after another, dropping his foe on a few occasions. In fact, the fight could have and should’ve been stopped a couple times, but referee Herb Dean finally put an end to the bout after to save Mir from further punishment.
That winning performance was good enough to earn UFC’s “Knockout of the Week.”
While “Cigano” isn’t the same fighter he was five years ago, he still packs a punch and plans to prove he can still hang with the young dogs when he faces off against Tuivasa.
