One of the most destructive men in all of boxing, Sergey Kovalev, returns this Saturday (Aug. 4, 2018), headlining an HBO doubleheader, defending his WBO Light Heavyweight title against long-time contender Eleider Alvarez inside Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Atlantic City, New Jersey.
MMAmania will deliver LIVE coverage of ‘Kovalev vs. Alvarez’ this weekend, starting with the HBO broadcast at 10 p.m. ET.
Kovalev (32-2-1, 28 KO) is 2-0 with two knockouts since his stoppage loss to Andre Ward last year. Though that defeat remains fresh in viewers’ minds, it’s worth remembering “The Krusher’s” reign of terror, which HBO has kindly collected in the video above.
Alvarez (23-0, 11 KO) was avoided by Adonis Stevenson for years, and when “Superman” elected to fight Badou Jack instead of fulfilling his mandatory obligations, the Colombia-born Canadian elected to fight Kovalev instead.
In the co-feature, the “Next Big Thing™” Dmitry Bivol (13-0, 11 KO) puts his WBA belt on the line against durable veteran Isaac Chilemba (25-5-2, 10 KO), the winner potentially facing the winner of the main event in a future unification bout.
