Chris Weidman continues to call Israel Adesanya ‘overrated’ on social media.
Chris Weidman wasn’t too impressed with Israel Adesanya at UFC 234.
‘The Last Stylebender’ cruised to a unanimous decision over former middleweight champion Anderson Silva in the main event and earned a Fight of the Night bonus for his efforts.
With the win Adesanya surged into the UFC’s top-five middleweight rankings but, according to ‘All-American’, the 29-year-old is a ‘tad bit overrated.’
Weidman doubled down on those comments on Twitter, claiming that Adesanya ‘wouldn’t stand much of a chance’ against him.
He wouldn’t have much of a chance against me. Has he fought a top 5 guy yet ? A jitsu guy or top wrestler?

Weidman then went on to respond to another puzzled fan, claiming that Adesanya should have been much more dominant against Silva.
Got a lot of Twitter fingers coming at me about saying Israel is a little overrated. Just my opinion. He hasn’t fought 1 top 5 guy. No top wrestler or jitsu guy. Was a -700 fave over Silva??? According to odds after seeing fight showed he was overrated. Close fight

Adesanya, who made his UFC debut just 12-months ago, hasn’t responded to the latest round of criticism but had no problem brushing off Weidman’s initial comments with the following response:
“I didn’t pay any mind to Chris Weidman [saying] I’m overrated,” he said. “OK, why, because he beat Silva a little bit more handily than I did. You know. I’m overrated. Interesting. I could say the same thing about him. Heavily. Yeah, When I get this belt in my next fight, they can all line up and they can find out how overrated I am. And Chris Weidman, that’s his opinion, that’s his opinion, and I don’t have to pay any attention to it. But yeah, overrated, that’s interesting. Hmmm.”
Adesanya has called for the UFC to strip Robert Whittaker of the middleweight title and book himself versus Kelvin Gastelum for the vacant championship.
