Heavyweight fighter Fabricio Werdum (14-4) says he is 100% healthy and ready to begin training for his next fight. Although he’s been offered a rematch with Fedor Emelianenko or a shot at Alistair Overeem by Strikeforce, the Brazilian plans on fighting outside of America for his next fight.
The ADCC world champion is coming off a huge upset last summer over Fedor, submitting the Russian in the first round something no one has ever done.
After the win Werdum had surgery to his left elbow and took some time off to heal travelling the world performing seminars.
Now he says he’s ready to make his return, he’s been offered contracts to fight in Abu Dhabi and Japan, something he is considering very seriouslly.
“I used this trip to make a couple of good contacts in Abu Dhabi and Japan. Strikeforce want me to return in March against Fedor [Emelianenko] or [Alistair] Overeem, but I’m looking forward to having a fight before that one. I don’t have an exclusive contract with Strikeforce, only for the U.S., and I got a nice proposal in Abu Dhabi and another one in Japan. I’ve got my last professional commitment in New York. By next week, I’ll be back helping ‘Babalu’ and Fernando Bettega who will fight for Strikeforce on Dec. 4. My arm is 100 percent now and I feel that by February, I’ll be ready to fight in Abu Dhabi or Japan.”
Werdum made no comment identifying which organization made the offers, or an exact date for a fight in Abu Dhabi or Japan.
