The MMA Depressed-us Chorus | June M. Williams
Zane Simon, Connor Ruebusch, & Phil Mackenzie are back and watching the best of the worst of mixed martial arts. With a focus on the UFC, PRIDE, Strikeforce, and the WEC.
After a busy first week back in business, the UFC is taking another short break. And that means more time to get in some all-time bad MMA classics. As we’ve found a few times in the past, there are some fighters whose body of work just demands more than a simple one-off fight viewing. Fighters whose careers stand as a monument to all that is gloriously weird and wild about mixed martial arts. One such man is Cody McKenzie.
McKenzie entered the UFC off some surprising success during season 12 of the Ultimate Fighter. He’d go one to fight seven times for the promotion over the next three years, racking up 3 wins and four losses. Hardly the kind of career that screams memorable. But for a man who seemed to be scraping the bottom end of the athletic barrel, and whose principal offensive tool was a modified guillotine, ever performance was sight worth seeing.
So, join us over on Fight Pass (as always). Unlike our regular shows, however, to save time, we’ve started every fight except McKenzie’s last bout against Sam Stout, at the beginning of the first round. Connor will prime listeners with the timestamp for the bout, so if anyone wants to watch along with us, they can still sync up.
