When Jon Jones choked out Lyoto Machida at UFC 140 back in December 2011, coach Greg Jackson instructed “Bones” to check on his lifeless opponent in order to “get some fans.” The idea was that MMA fans are stupid and would think “Oh wow, Jones cares about Machida, he really is a good guy after all,” and then run out and buy his merchandise.
I guess it worked, because now the fans are asking Jones to replicate the finish.
That includes our little friend in the video above, who was on hand for the FIBO fitness trade show last weekend in Germany. Jones was more than happy to oblige, which is surprising, because things can (and sometimes do) go wrong when you start choking people unconscious.
As you can see from the quick revival, the demonstration ended without incident.
No telling if it will be this easy to finish Thiago Santos when they collide at UFC 239 this July in Las Vegas, but it certainly doesn’t hurt that Jones — defending his light heavyweight strap — will enjoy a staggering eight-inch reach advantage on fight night.
