For the second time in five months, Max Holloway defeated one of the most dominant former champions in all of MMA by knocking out Jose Aldo in the main event of last night’s (Sat., Dec. 2, 2017) UFC 218 event in Detroit, Michigan in what truly was a highly-entertaining rematch.

Deja vu.

In doing so, “Blessed” retained his featherweight strap and erased any and all doubt as to who the best 145-pound fighter in the world really is, all while putting the rest of the division on notice that he won’t be letting go of his hardware without a true fight.

As for what’s next for the Hawaiian-born fighter, a title defense against Frankie Edgar seems to be the obvious choice. “The Answer” was all set to take on Max at UFC 218 before he busted up his orbital bone during training, forcing him out of his latest championship fight. And “The Answer” will have to be onhis “A” game if hewants to become UFC’s next multi-divisional champion, as Max looks unstoppable at the moment.

Should Edgar be out for an extended period of time, the UFC will likely give Cub Swanson a look — finally — should he defeat Brian Ortega next Saturday night in Fresno, California,

There are a lot of “what if’s” that need to play out in the months ahead that will determine who Holloway defends his 145-pound strap against. Until then, he can sit back and enjoy the fruits of his labor after taking it to one of the true legends of the sport (again) en route to cementing himself as the greatest 145-pound fighter of all time.
