“We’ll be announcing (the location) soon. But obviously it’s looking like Fight Island.”
Dana White is adamant that UFC Fight Island in Abu Dhabi will replace Las Vegas as the new fight capital of the world.
The UFC hosted four events on Yas Island in July and White is planning to return to the United Arab Emirates later this year.
Speaking to Complex in a recent interview (h/t BJPenn.com), White hinted that the UFC will return to Fight Island next month for the highly anticipated middleweight title bout between Israel Adesanya and Paulo Costa.
“We’ll be announcing (the location) soon. But obviously it’s looking like Fight Island,” White said.
“A lot of the big fights that are international are going to be on Fight Island. I told everybody the last time we were there, people sort of thought this was a one-and-done or whatever, it’s not. We’re going to be at Fight Island. Abu Dhabi is going to end up being the fight capital of the world. It definitely isn’t Las Vegas.”
UFC 253: Adesanya vs. Costa will take place on September 19, so expect an official announcement on the location in the next couple of weeks.
