Conor McGregor vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov 2 is on the table, if the Irishman can get past ‘Cowboy’ this weekend.
Conor McGregor will get what he’s been asking for with a win over Donald Cerrone, and that’s a chance at a rematch with Khabib Nurmagomedov.
McGregor makes his return to the Octagon for the first time since losing to Nurmagomedov in October 2018 this weekend against ‘Cowboy’ in the main event of UFC 246. Cerrone has lost his last two UFC fights, whilst McGregor is without a win in over three years.
Talking recently to Jim Rome, White once again confirmed McGregor will get a title shot he gets past Cerrone this weekend.
“He gets what he’s been waiting for,” White answered. “He gets what he’s been asking for. He has been chomping at the bit for the Khabib rematch. I think it’s no big secret. (Transcription via MMA Fighting)
“If he wins this weekend, he will get that shot at the title and it will be the biggest pay-per-view ever in UFC history.”
Nurmagomedov has a title defense lined up at UFC 249 in April against former interim champion Tony Ferguson, it’s the fifth time the matchup between the two has been booked. Top lightweight contender Justin Gaethje, who holds a win over ‘Cowboy’ expected to be next in line for the 155-pound title. Gaethje recently labelled it a ‘crock of sh-t’ if McGregor gets a title shot with a win over Cerrone.
UFC 246 takes place this Saturday, January 18th, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. McGregor vs Cerrone’s welterweight fight will headline the card.
