“I think that in a year or two, we’re going to be like, ‘holy s**t, we shut down the whole world for this thing.”
UFC president Dana White thinks the media’s response to the coronavirus pandemic is driven by fear and ultimately causing more harm than good.
The United States and many other countries around the world are currently in lockdown but White believes the government’s authoritarian measures to contain the virus aren’t justified.
Speaking to Mike Tyson in a recent episode of Hotboxin’, White blamed the media for spreading panic and fear amongst the people.
“Everybody’s running and hiding,” White said, per MMA Fighting. “I’m one of those guys that would rather get out there and find solutions. How do we figure this out? How do we beat this thing?
“Listen, if you’re somebody that’s a high risk, you should probably stay away and stay quarantined for a while. What happens when flu season comes again next year? What happens then?
“I think that the media has made this thing scary,” White continued. “People are buying all of the toilet paper there is. If you just look at a lot of things that are going on, it’s wacky and totally driven by fear. It’s very weird.”
White believes after the virus has been contained people will look back at this event and question their sanity.
“I think that in a year or two, we’re going to be like, ‘holy s**t, we shut down the whole world for this thing.”
As of today, there are 657,777 confirmed cases of coronavirus and 30,431 recorded deaths worldwide. Over 140,000 people are thought to have made a fully recovery from the virus, per worldometers.info.
