Watch Dagestan go wild over Khabib’s latest win at UFC 242.
UFC president Dana White has a posted a video of a traffic jam in Khabib Nurmagomedov’s hometown of Dagestan, Russia, presumably to highlight ‘The Eagle’s international popularity.
The footage was uploaded just one day after Nurmagomedov’s submission win over Dustin Poirier at UFC 242, where the undefeated Dagestani defended his lightweight title and extended his professional record to a perfect 28-0.
Is it just a traffic jam, or are the Dagestanis wildly celebrating the latest victory of their local hero?
You decide.
Following his title win over Poirier, Khabib has demanded to be ranked as the No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter in the world.
“Put me on the number one (spot of the) pound-for-pound fighter (list) next week,” Khabib said in the aftermath of his win over Poirier. “Because I think I deserve this. Because I dominated all my opponents. I’m undefeated. And I think I deserve some respect.”
Nurmagomedov’s next title defense is expected to be against former interim champ Tony Ferguson, who is currently riding a twelve-fight win streak and considered the rightful No. 1 contender.
