Phillipe nover’s service as a nurse during the coronavirus outbreak has caught the attention of Dana White.
Phillipe Nover was once one of the hottest prospects in MMA, but he is now on a very different career path as a registered cardiac nurse helping fight the coronavirus pandemic.
After impressing on season 8 of The Ultimate Fighter, Nover (11-8-1) was labeled as the “next Anderson Silva” by UFC president Dana White. Two unsuccessful stints in the UFC saw Nover go 1-7 in the promotion, and he ultimately retired from professional competition in 2017.
Once fighting in the octagon, Nover is now working in New York City as a cardiac nurse during the outbreak of COVID-19. His service drew the attention of his former boss, White, as he thanked Nover in a recent video published by TMZ Sports.
“Phillipe, Dana here. I’m hearing all the incredible things that you’re doing on the frontlines in New York City. You’re awesome, kid. I have so much respect for, not just you, but everybody who is part of the first responders and medical staff that are taking care of everybody and putting yourself in harm’s way to help others. You were a stud on ‘TUF,’ and apparently, you’re still kicking ass, my friend. Congratulations and thank you so much for all you’re doing for everybody. See you soon.” (Transcription via MMA Junkie)
Nover seemed genuinely surprised and thankful to the praise from White, and said the UFC president has always been supportive of his career.
“Wow, that’s a great message,” Nover said. “I did not expect that. … That feels amazing. I’m glad the message is out there. He’s always been super supportive of my career, even in the UFC. That’s an amazing message. It (comes) from the boss. That’s awesome. Thanks, Dana.”
