White says Conor McGregor is ‘taking 10 months off’, Nate Diaz responds

According to Dana White, Conor McGregor could be out until August 2017. This led Nate Diaz to announce a similar vacation.

It looks like Conor McGregor could be out a few months longer than expected. The UFC lightweight champion (and recent UFC featherweight titleholder) was expected to be sidelined until May due to the birth of his first child. But according to Dana White during an appearance on Fox Sports Live, McGregor could be out until the fall, based on the timeline from his last fight.

He mentioned it after being asked about McGregor still carrying around both belts (via Fox Sports):

“That’s who Conor is, that’s how Conor is. Conor is the best. He’s got no fights, he’s taking 10 months off, he’s having a baby and everybody’s still talking about him,” White said.

McGregor defeated Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 last month, so 10 months from then would mean an August return.

For the record, White’s not bothered by him continuing to carry around the two belts:

“You can’t take away the accomplishment. He accomplished that. He won two belts at the same time, he held them both at the same time,” White said. “Nobody’s ever done that. He’s the only one to ever do that in UFC history. Nobody beat him. He vacated (the title).

“So for him to still consider himself the champ — he can.”

Apparently after hearing that McGregor would be out for a while, a certain fighter from Stockton that has fought him twice and wants a third bout took to social media to say that he was on vacation too:

Imma take 10 months off..

If McGregor is indeed out until late 2017, that could have a significant impact on the UFC’s business.
