Now would be a great time for White and McGregor to meet and figure out when he’ll fight next. But the two won’t even meet while the Irish sports star is in town.
Conor McGregor is in Las Vegas right now promoting a new ‘Bucked Up’ energy drink, and you’d hope that meant he’d be meeting with UFC brass to discuss a new fight date. Alas, according to UFC CEO Dana White, that isn’t happening.
“No, I haven’t talked to him,” White said of McGregor following Tuesday night’s Contender Series event. When asked if they would talk while he was in town, White said, “No.”
Nothing strange about that at all. It’s not like McGregor is a hard man to get a hold of. The Schmo tracked down “The Notorious” and had a quick chat with the fighter turned entrepreneur, confirming Conor was still in limbo without a bout date.
“Now I’m looking for the date, hopefully,” McGregor told him. “I’d like to square it away with Michael Chandler. I’d like to get Chandler in. We’ve had our beef. It’s not settled. He has a match scheduled. I’d like to fight maybe before that, or before he’s recovered or whatnot.”
“There’s a few names in the line at the minute. There’s a few names being discussed.”
When asked whether he’d like to fight Dustin Poirier or Nate Diaz again, McGregor replied “Both of them.”
“Both is a must for sure,” Conor repeated. “The Dustin thing was not settled. It’s 1-1-1. And the Diaz one is also 1-1. So … two big block blockbuster matches, and I’ll be excited to get them locked in.”
The UFC seems to be in no rush locking anything in for McGregor these days. For whatever reason, he’s completely on the backburner, and we expect him to stay there for the next couple of months.
