Had it not been for a ludicrous decision to disqualify Jon Jones after blasting Matt Hamill with some illegal elbows back in 2009, Jon Jones would be undefeated and the talk of greatest of all time would further intensify. Instead, his record sits at 26-1-1.
But it seems Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White has been trying to overturn that loss, though he hasn’t had much success…yet.
“I’ve battled hard to try and get that one taken off the back of his record which is almost impossible to do. Which is insane, it is crazy that that thing doesn’t go away,” White told ESPN (via BJPenn.com).
“At the time, the Nevada State Athletic Commission was at it’s weakest, the guy who was running it was weak, the people who were involved were weak. Everybody was weak at the time. You should be able to look back and say okay let’s make this right. So far no good, I have really worked hard to try and get that 1 taken off his record. But, it is not looking good.”
At the end of the day, the loss will likely remains on Jon’s record for the remainder of his career. Still, it hasn’t done much to tarnish his fighting legacy, as he is still considered to be the greatest fighter to ever step foot inside the cage thanks to his dominant run as UFC’s Light Heavyweight champion.
“Bones” will look to add to his already-impressive resume as he embarks on his new combat adventure when he moves up tp Heavyweight to bang with the big boys later this year. If Jones can get the job done there (which even his rivals think he will), he will undoubtedly solidify himself as the greatest mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter ever.
