Former UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor is still the biggest pay-per-view (PPV) draw in MMA, racking up between 1.7 and 1.8 million PPV buys for his UFC 264 headliner on July 10 in Las Vegas, just shy of UFC President Dana White’s pre-fight prediction.
Unfortunately for “Notorious,” a first-round leg injury led to a doctor’s stoppage against longtime nemesis Dustin Poirier — and a second straight loss.
“I have to be careful with this stuff now that we’re a public company – I can’t go shooting my mouth off and have it be completely wrong,” White said at the UFC 264 post-fight press conference. “But I’m going to say we came in anywhere between 1.7 and 1.8 million.”
That’s why Poirier snubbed the UFC title.
UFC 264 is likely to finish as the most profitable PPV event of the year and second all time, behind the Irishman’s UFC 229 loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov. McGregor finished at roughly 1.6 million for his Poirier rematch at UFC 257 back in January.
