“If I have to go out, I want to go out on my shield. But I understand that my corner and my team has my best interest at heart.”
Cooler heads have prevailed since Deontay Wilder put his coach on blast for throwing in the towel against Tyson Fury, as ‘The Bronze Bomber’ has confirmed that Mark Breland is ‘still a part of Team Wilder’ following his decision to stop the fight in the seventh round.
Although Wilder is still upset that he didn’t get to go out on his shield, the heavy hitting knockout artist understands why Breland threw in the towel and credited his coach for having his best interests at heart.
Statement from Deontay Wilder:
“I’m a warrior. I feel the same way I felt on fight night. If I have to go out, I want to go out on my shield. But I understand that my corner and my team has my best interest at heart. Mark Breland is still a part of Team Wilder.” #WilderFury2

“I’m a warrior. I feel the same way I felt on fight night. If I have to go out, I want to go out on my shield. But I understand that my corner and my team has my best interest at heart. Mark Breland is still a part of Team Wilder,” Wilder said in a statement to boxing correspondent Mike Coppinger.
Wilder may be upset with the stoppage, but the 34-year-old displayed tremendous heart after being dropped by Fury in the third and fifth rounds. To continue for two more rounds is a testament to his work ethic.
Wilder, who fought Fury to a draw back in 2018, will be exercising his rematch clause and look to settle the score with ‘The Gypsy King’ in a trilogy bout.
