Boxing heavyweight Tyson Fury put on a masterclass performance against Tom Schwarz this past weekend in Las Vegas, outboxing the undefeated German enroute to a second-round TKO victory at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Fury, who hails from Wythenshawe, Manchester, was untouchable for those two rounds but former opponent Deontay Wilder wasn’t overly-impressed with ‘Gypsy King’s’ impeccable performance.

Speaking to The Athletic in a recent interview Wilder, who fought Fury to a draw back in December of last year, said Fury put on an ‘OK’ performance against a lackluster opponent.

“It was a cool performance. It wasn’t much of an opponent. I think (Schwarz) only threw four punches. He was a punching bag.” Wilder said on Sunday. “Fury did what he was supposed to do. They’re trying to promote him up, saying things, selling this story about him over and over again, talking about him as the lineal champion… It’s building him up. But the performance (on Saturday against Tom Schwarz) was just OK.”

Wilder, 33, returned to the boxing ring last month against Dominic Breazeale, KO’ing the American in the first round of the main event at Barclays Center in New York.

Fury and Wilder are expected to rematch in 2020, but only if both men are victorious in their next respective bouts.
