A great end to a bad fight.
The Wilder vs. Fury 2 co-main event between Charles Martin (28-2-1, 25 KOs) and Gerald Washington (20-4-1, 13 KOs) was bad. It was a horrible fight that seemed to drag on forever… until it didn’t.
A big left hand by Martin planted the former USC football player towards the end of the sixth round, and when he got up it was clear he was not in good shape. Referee Tony Weeks made the rightful call to stop the fight, as Washington wobbled and wavered in the wind.
This was an IBF heavyweight title eliminator, and considering Anthony Joshua has the IBF belt, utterly no one wants to see a rematch between Martin and the Brit. Washington’s days as even a fringe contender also appear to be over, as the former title challenger (and Deontay Wilder victim) gets stopped yet again.
Official result: Charles Martin def. Gerald Washington by TKO at 1:57 of round 6
