Living up to the hype, but producing an unlikely outcome, Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury fought to a draw.
In a fight that delivered in every sense of the way, Deontay Wilder (40–0–1) and Tyson Fury (27-0-1) fought to a draw in what many deemed a controversial decision.
What was the high point of the fight?
Fury got the better of Wilder in the early rounds, using head movement and footwork to avoid the heavy punches of “The Bronze Bomber.” A jab from Wilder opened up a cut on the nose of Fury in the fourth. A two-punch combination from Fury in the seventh landed flush on Wilder, and whilst the American continued to push forward Fury landed a big uppercut whilst his back was against the ropes.
A lot of taunting from Fury was cut short in the ninth when a right hand from Wilder landed behind the ear of Fury and sent him to the canvas. Wilder came out all guns blazing after the knockdown but Fury landed a good left hook as the American came in.
In the final round, a devastating right hand followed by a left hook sent Fury to the canvas for the second time in the fight. Flat out on his back, it looked unlikely Fury would get back up, but he did. “The Gypsy King” then remarkably started to come back with some good shots of his own.
Where do these two go from here?
It’s obvious where both men go from here, a rematch. The judges in this fight did a disservice to both fighters, with a 115-111 scorecard in favour of Wilder from judge Alejandro Rochin being almost laughable. When asked in the ring about the rematch, it was clear both men where keen on the idea, however Wilder did say he was unsure if the rematch would be his next fight.
Watch it now, later or never?
Watch it now to see Fury’s jawdropping recovery in the twelfth round after being knocked down by Wilder.
