Bellator Fighting Championships 115 lb women’s champion Zoila ‘Warrior Princess’ Gurgel (11-1) has suffered a torn ACL forcing her out of her non-title fight with Carina Damm at the upcoming Bellator 57 event.
The ‘Warrior Princess’ took to Twitter (@ZoilaGurgel) to talk about the injury.
“To every1 wondering what the hell I’m talking about, I just took an MRI of my knee yesterday & results came back, I completely tore my ACL. If it was up to me, I still was planning on fighting. I am able to still move forward & box & I am very confident in that & my cardio but Doctor & coaches say “No way in hell!” So it’s off to surgery hopefully soon & back to the training asap. Like I said, it’s God’s will. So until i go under the knife, I’ll be at the school @JG_MMA doing cardio & everything I possible can til I can’t feel my legs or body so by the time it’s time for surgery I’ll want to be resting a bit. I know this will be difficult, never been off my legs for more thn a few days, but I’m sure w/good people & God by my side, I’ll get thru it & shine once again in what I love to do under those big lights. Thank you everyone for all your love and support! 🙂 your all so amazing!”
Gurgel has won six straight bouts, which includes winning the Bellator Season 3 Women’s 115 lb Tournament to become the promotions first champion in that weight class. She has yet to defend the title, but earned a unanimous decision over Karina Hallinan at Bellator 35 in a non-title bout at 125 lbs. That is the same weight class that she had been scheduled to face Carina Damm at on November 12.
