Strikeforce women’s middleweight (145 lb) champion Cristiane ‘Cyborg’ Santos (10-1) hasn’t fought for almost a year since her second round TKO victory over Jan Finney at last summers Fedor vs. Werdum event.
Since that time, Santos has been in negotiations with Strikeforce over a new contract. Both sides don’t appear close to coming to an agreement anytime soon, so the female champ is looking outside of the Strikeforce cage for her next fight.
‘Cyborg’ spoke to Tatame.com about her negotiations with Strikeforce, as well as her hopes of fighting in August in her native Brazil.
I’m pretty sad not to be fighting and I’m trying to renegotiate my contract for a year, but Strkeforce doesn’t want to made a deal, they want to keep paying me what they paid before, but now I’m the event’s champion and I’ve never been defeated in Strikeforce. I just wanted to be recognized…
It’s 99% confirmed (fighting in Brazil). I got this chance to fight in Brazil, and I’m just waiting for Strikeforce to let me go, because they demand you don’t fight in another event for a year after you win the belt. This chance of fighting in Brazil would be awesome, and since I’m going to be released in June from Strikeforce, I’ll have the chance to fight in August, in Santa Catarina, I just don’t know in which event it’ll be, but I’m glad. I can’t stay for that long without fighting otherwise I don’t get any money to pay my bills, because even my sponsors only help me when the events are happening.
Santos is on a ten fight win streak and has won four in a row with the Strikeforce promotion. She stopped Gina Carano in August of 2009 to capture the women`s middleweight title.
