From wanting a piece of them just a few years back, Tyron Woodley is now looking to have both Nick and Nate Diaz as his training partners.
Former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley recently began training at the Tristar Gym in Montreal with Firas Zahabi and fellow ex-titleholder Georges St-Pierre. As he continues his pursuit to reclaim the 170-pound belt, “The Chosen One” is also looking to add more new training partners to his list.
Speaking to fans in a recent live chat via social media, Woodley says he’s considering training with both Nick and Nate Diaz.
“You know what? At one point in time I really wanted to fight Nate, not because I thought he was weak, not because I thought it was an easy fight or I wanted his clout,” Woodley said (transcript by BJPenn.com). “I thought he was a beast, I thought Nate was a beast, I thought GSP was a beast, Bisping was a beast, Carlos Condit.
“That’s why I wanted to fight those guys. Now I’m in a position where it does not make sense for me probably to fight them.
“I’m thinking about reaching out and training [with them],” he continued. “What ya’ll think about that? I’m training with GSP here soon. I already started training with Firas [Zahabi] a couple of sessions. What do y’all think about me training with Nate or Nick?”
After dropping the title to Kamaru Usman in March, Woodley was supposed to fight Robbie Lawler in a rematch at UFC Minneapolis in June, but pulled out due to an injury. He has yet to schedule his next fight.
