World Series of Fighting is headed to network television.
After promoting nine events in less than two years, WSOF has signed a multi-year agreement extending and broadening its deal with the NBC Sports Group through 2017. The future cards will be televised on NBCSN and NBC and featured on NBC’s digital platforms.
The NBC Sports Group will televise 14 live WSOF cards in 2014. WSOF 11, scheduled for July 5, will air on NBC. The card is headlined by lightweight champion Justin Gaethje against unbeaten sensation Nick Newell. UFC veteran Melvin Guillard makes his promotional debut against Gesias Cavalcante, and a third bout between Josh Burkman vs. Jon Fitch will also take place on the card.
The World Series of Fighting will also have a year-end card on Dec. 27 on NBC.
“We are excited to extend and broaden our partnership to continue to bring World Series of Fighting’s unique brand of elite mixed martial arts to our viewers,” NBC and NBCSN president of programming Jon Miller said in a release.
WSOF’s next show, set for June 21 in Las Vegas, Nev., airs live on NBCSN. David Branch battles Jesse Taylor for the inaugural middleweight title in the main event, and featherweights Georgi Karakhanyan and Rick Glenn battle for the 145-pound title. WSOF strawweight champion Jessica Aguilar defends her title against Emi Fujino.
“We have enjoyed tremendous success as a young company with the great people at NBCSG, and we are thrilled to be continuing on this journey with them for years to come,” WSOF president Ray Sefo said. “World Series of Fighting will continue to put on premier MMA events around the world with some of the world’s best fighters, and we’re so proud to be able to share it with all of NBC and NBCSN’s viewers.”
