The latest World Series of Fighting card will feature two title fights and a BJJ world champ on top. Check out a brief preview here.
World Series of Fighting returns tonight with a dual-title fight card and a very late start. For some reason tonight’s main card will go live at 11:30pm ET/8:30pm PT from the Hard Rock in Vegas. The prelims kick off at 8:30pm ET/5:30pm PT, and you can watch them live on Bloody Elbow.
Here’s a brief preview of the main card.
David Branch vs. Clifford Starks [MW Title]
I don’t really see Starks having a lot for Branch here. Wrestling is his bread and butter, but Branch’s solid grappling game makes that a risky proposition for Starks. Branch is likely to control the fight on the feet too. I think Starks maybe takes the first round with positional control, but fades badly and Branch submits him late.
Prediction – David Branch by submission, round 4
Jon Fitch vs. Joao Zeferino [Vacant WW Title]
This was supposed to be one of my dream fights – Fitch vs. Jake Shields. Alas, Shields had some issues and now we get lightweight tournament finalist Zeferino against the AKA grinder. Fitch has had a pretty uneven run in WSOF so far, but looked fairly solid in a win over Yushin Okami last time out. He’ll have a size advantage and if he can avoid Zeferino’s leg lock game, he should take this bout rather easily. It could be five rounds of grinding though, so be prepared.
Prediction – Jon Fitch by decision
Heun is vulnerable on the ground. This is obviously Vinny’s fight to lose.
Prediction – Vinny Magalhaes by submission, round 1
Abu Azaitar vs. Danny Davis Jr.
A pure showcase fight for Azaitar.
Prediction – Abu Azaitar by TKO, round 1
Prelims
Matthew Frincu vs. Abubakar Nurmagomedov
Rex Harris vs. Clinton Williams
Matt Church vs. Steve Kozola
Adam Acquaviva vs. Andres Ponce
Zach Bunnell vs. Jeff Roman
