Fight fans who tuned in for World Series of Fighting (WSOF) 34 on New Year’s Eve (Dec. 31, 2016) inside Madison Square Garden in New York, N.Y., got an unexpected bonus during NBC’s broadcast. With four WSOF champions defending their titles during the programming, including the Lightweight main event that saw Justin Gaethje remain undefeated in a fight with Luiz Firmino, there simply wasn’t time or room for a fifth title defense.
However, when Blagoi Ivanov steps in a cage there isn’t much room … period. At 5’11” and weighing more than 250 pounds, Ivanov is a stocky sambo fighter and a mountain of judo muscle with whom very few men can go the distance. Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fighter Shawn “The Savage” Jordan will be the next to try his luck with Ivanov, the reigning and two-time defending WSOF Heavyweight champion.
Ivanov and Jordan are scheduled to collide in the main event of WSOF 35, which takes place on Feb. 25, 2017, at a venue to be determined.
Jordan most recently rebounded from a decision loss to Ruslan Magomedov at UFC 192 in 2015, finishing Ashley Gooch in the first round of his Decagon debut. That victory earned the 19-7 Jordan his title shot against the 14-1 (1 NC) Ivanov, who is undefeated during his WSOF tenure.
