Newly crowned WSOF champions Rousimar Palhares and Marlon Moraes led the reported payroll for WSOF 9, as both fighters took home $50,000 purses for their title-winning performances, according to figures released to MMAFighting.com by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
Palhares, fighting for the first time since being unceremoniously cut from the UFC, wrenched away the WSOF welterweight title from Steve Carl ($20,000) in the night’s main event, winning via inverted heel hook just 69 seconds into the first round.
In the night’s co-featured bout, Moraes chopped down Josh Rettinghouse ($4,000) with a steady diet of low kicks over the course of five dominant rounds to claim the inaugural WSOF bantamweight title.
Former UFC fighters Yushin Okami and Josh Burkman headed the remainder of the event’s payroll.
Okami, also fighting for the first time since being cut from the UFC, pocketed $40,000 for an effortless second-round submission victory over unheralded Bulgarian Svetlozar Savov ($4,000), while Burkman earned $25,000 for a first-round knockout of Tyler Stinson ($7,000).
WSOF 9 took place March 29, 2014 at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV.
