WWE SummerSlam 2017 results and video: Brock Lesnar retains Universal title

Check out the full results from WWE SummerSlam 2017.

SummerSlam 2017 went down in Brooklyn tonight, and it was a very up-and-down show. The first half of the card really dragged until Alexa Bliss vs. Sasha Banks, and then it finally started to pick up. Here’s a look at every match on the PPV card, which was capped off by a big Brock Lesnar win. Three different UFC fighters were name-dropped on the show as well – Jon Jones, Ronda Rousey, and Conor McGregor.

Brock Lesnar defeated Roman Reigns, Braun Strowman and Samoa Joe to retain the Universal Championship

This match was absolute carnage. Joe got it started with some table bashing:

Words can’t even begin to describe the carnage that has already taken place in this #SummerSlam main event! #Fatal4Way pic.twitter.com/R0u8A9wBhe

Then it was chair-throwing time:

Strowman absolutely destroyed everyone and everything early in the match, putting Brock through both announce tables and then dumping the rest of the table on top of him.

He was stretchered out, but returned later. Everyone hit a ton of their spots, and Reigns looked to be in control for a while until Lesnar came back and wrecked shop. There were a couple of close falls that were broken up at the last second. Finally Lesnar hit an F-5 on Reigns and got the pin to retain.

Jinder Mahal defeated Shinsuke Nakamura to retain the WWE Championshop

They did the violin entrance for Nakamura, which is always great. The match was a little clunky and slow-paced, but they did what they had to. You can tell how little happened by the fact that WWE didn’t post many gifs on Twitter. In the end, the Singh Brothers interfered and got laid out by Nakamura, but Jinder took advantage and scored with the Khallas to retain his title.

AJ Styles defeated Kevin Owens via pinfall to retain the US Title

The usual excellent match between the two with some great moves and swings in a action. Special referee Shane McMahon got involved a few times, but didn’t play into the finish to any great degree. Here’s some of the fun stuff from the match:

Owens had the match won after a Pop Up Powerbomb, but Styles got a foot on the ropes. This led to a pushing match between KO and Shane, which allowed AJ to make a comeback. Phenomenal Forearm and a Styles Clash meant doom for Owens.

Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins defeated Cesaro and Sheamus to win the Raw Tag Team Titles

The Shield reunion worked out and the four men had a very, very good match. Cesaro in particular was in fine form, using some very creative moves in the ring and storming out in the audience to tear up a beach ball.

That was by far my favorite thing on the entire show. After two Rollins superkicks and Dirty Deeds from Ambrose, two thirds of the Hounds of Justice won the tag belts.

Finn Balor defeated Bray Wyatt via pinfall

Balor did the demon entrance, which didn’t have the same impact it did back in NXT.

The match didn’t look much different than their Raw match this week, but Balor got in move offense and eventually pinned Wyatt clean after a Coup De Grace.

Sasha Banks defeated Alexa Bliss by submission to win the Raw Women’s Championship

Well that was a shock. I didn’t expect for one second that Sasha would win, much less have Alexa tap out. But that’s what went down. The match itself was excellent, far and away the best match on the card to this point. Both ladies used some very innovative moves, particularly Alexa.

Bliss also used a cool spot where she pulled on the ring apron skirt to make Banks slip as she was going to attack her on the outside. In the end though, after a lot of back and forth, Banks locked on the Bank Statement and Five Feet of Fury tapped out. Sasha is a four-time champion now.

So nice, she had to do it TWICE! #SummerSlam @AlexaBliss_WWE pic.twitter.com/tHESYkvGDw

Randy Orton defeated Rusev via pinfall

This was quick. Rusev attacked Orton before the match started and bumped him on the outside…

It’s a BULGARIAN AMBUSH on @RandyOrton before the bell can even ring by @RusevBUL! #SummerSlam pic.twitter.com/Yk5iKlkBCr

— WWE (@WWE) August 21, 2017

When they got back in and the bell actually rung, Orton immediately hit an RKO and it was over in about 10 seconds.

Big Cass defeated Big Show via pinfall

This was very, very bad. Enzo Amore cut an aimless promo, then got into a shark cage elevated above the ring. The two big men tried to sell Show’s “injured” hand, but it was not a classic big man match. Then Enzo stripped, applied baby oil to himself…

…and was able to slide between the bars and escape – just to take a big boot to the face when he jumped down. Finally, Cass hit two boots and an Empire Elbow to end Show’s night.

Natalya defeated Naomi via submission to win the Smackdown Women’s Championship

I am thoroughly confused about this. Natalya hasn’t been given a push in seemingly forever, yet she forced the champion to tap out right in the middle of the ring to a Sharpshooter. No interference. No nothing. This match went too long and had some blown spots, but the finish came off flat because no one seemed to care. Regardless, Smackdown has a new women’s champ.

John Cena defeated Baron Corbin via pinfall

I was a bit surprised that this opened the PPV. Corbin got in a fair amount of offense, but we all knew who was going to win. I did like this chokeslam backbreaker though:

Chokeslam + Backbreaker = More pain than you can imagine… #SummerSlam @BaronCorbinWWE @JohnCena pic.twitter.com/ZOu9ieTQYs

— WWE (@WWE) August 20, 2017

In the end, Cena hit a big clothesline and an AA to get the pin. And walked out acting like he was taking some more time off.

Kickoff Show (5pm ET)

The Usos defeated The New Day to win the Smackdown Tag Team Championships

Neville defeated Akira Tozawa to reclaim the WWE Cruiserweight Championship

The Miztourage defeated Jason Jordan & The Hardy Boyz when Miz pinned Jordan
