WWE will go on with WrestleMania, but not in front of an audience.
WrestleMania is the biggest event of the year for WWE. They have sold out massive venues and drawn crowds of over 70,000 people every year since 2006. But this year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the paying crowd will be approximately zero patrons.
The pro wrestling promotion announced today that their are moving the show from Raymond James Stadium in Tampa to their Performance Center in Orlando, and it will take place without an audience:
“In coordination with local partners and government officials, WrestleMania and all related events in Tampa Bay will not take place. However, WrestleMania will still stream live on Sunday, April 5 at 7 pm ET on WWE Network and be available on pay-per-view. Only essential personnel will be on the closed set at WWE’s training facility in Orlando, Florida to produce WrestleMania.”
WWE has been running their shows from the Performance Center with no audience since the federal government, and many states, disallowed large gatherings due to the pandemic. Originally the CDC stated that gatherings of no more than 50 people were good to go for the next eight weeks. US president Donald Trump stated today though that gatherings of gatherings of 10 or less are recommended at this time. This has forced the UFC to postpone their next three events, despite finding a venue on an Indian reservation that was willing to host them.
WrestleMania 36 goes down April 5th.
