Former Ultimate fighting Championship (UFC) Bantamweight champion Petr Yan was quick to respond to Rob Font’s recent challenge. And it isn’t good for Font. Yan took a swipe at his 135-pound colleague by suggesting that taking a fight against him might be a bit more than what he can handle since he couldn’t finish Cody Garbrandt during their scrap at UFC Vegas 27.
“Don’t try to bite off more than you can chew,” wrote Yan on Twitter. “You couldn’t even knock Cody No Chin out with your pillow hands.”
Despite the clap back, Font has proven that his hands are far from soft, scoring knockout wins over the likes of Thomas Almeida and Marlon Moraes. And while many expected his fight against “No Love” to end in a violent finish (courtesy of either man), the fight ended up going the distance, which didn’t impress Yan.
At the moment, the Russian-born fighter is holding out to see just how long division king, Aljamain Sterling, will be out following a neck procedure. “Funkmaster” defeated Yan via disqualification at UFC 259 this past March.
The two were expected to run it back right away but talks of a rematch cooled down after Sterling announced his looming surgery.
Since Yan doesn’t seem too interested in facing Font (No. 3), perhaps a showdown against either Cory Sandhagen or T.J. Dillashaw might be what’s next for the New England Cartel-trained fighter depending on the outcome of their upcoming scrap on July 24.
