Yancy Medeiros tested positive for marijuana metabolites in the wake of his victory over Yves Edwards at UFC Fight for the Troops 3, UFC officials announced Monday.

As a result of the failed test, Medeiros served a 90-day suspension retroactive to the event, which took place November 6, 2013 in Fort Campbell, KY, and the outcome of the contest has been overturned into a ‘no contest.’

Medeiros (9-1, 1 NC), a 26-year-old lightweight fighting out of Wai’anae, HI, originally defeated Edwards via knockout at 2:47 of the first round to earn his first victory inside the Octagon.

UFC officials released the following statement regarding Medeiros’ test.

“UFC lightweight Yancy Medeiros tested positive for marijuana metabolites following his bout against Yves Edwards at UFC Fight for the Troops 3 in Fort Campbell, Ky., on Nov. 6, 2013. He was informed that his positive test violated the UFC Fighter Conduct Policy and Promotional Agreement with Zuffa, LLC. He agreed to and served a 90-day suspension retroactive to the event, and must pass a drug test before receiving clearance to compete again. The outcome of his bout against Edwards was changed to a no-contest.”

Due to the abridged nature of the suspension, which has now run its course, Medeiros is still scheduled to welcome UFC rookie Joe Ellenberger into the Octagon on April 26, 2014 at UFC 172.
