“Problema” has issued a statement.
2023 Heavyweight Professional Fighters League (PFL) champion Renan Ferreira suffered a devastating loss at PFL Super Fights: “Battle of the Giants” yesterday (Sat., Oct. 19, 2024) when he was brutally knocked unconscious in the first round by Francis Ngannou from inside Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (watch highlights).
Ferreira took to his Instagram story a few hours after his loss to issue a statement.
“Hey guys, Renan ‘Problema’ here, a bit broken,” Ferreira said in Portuguese. “Yesterday wasn’t a good day at work, guys, but I’m very happy with all our dedication and everything that developed through our work. I’ve always had the mindset of never losing, for myself, to fight any lack of dedication and commitment, and thank God I have a clean conscience. I worked very hard there, showed up well to the fight, and was happy to return.
“Unfortunately, my opponent was superior. He managed to impose a game where I couldn’t defend the takedowns, which led to very hard ground-and-pound to get through. And that’s it. Life goes on; we’ll be back. I want to thank everyone for all the love and support, we’re always together. Hugs.”
The loss at PFL Super Fights snapped Ferreira’s four-fight winning streak in which he knocked out three fighters in the first round to win the 2023 PFL season and knocked out Ryan Bader to claim the Ngannou golden ticket.
The six-foot-eight Brazilian has a couple of options for what he wants to do: compete in the 2024 PFL Heavyweight season or continue to fight big names on PFL pay-per-views.
