Yoel Romero calls into Michael Bisping’s radio show, comedy ensues

Michael Bisping and Yoel Romero’s rivalry grew larger today with a strange segment on Bisping’s radio show where Romero actually called in.

The world of MMA can be a weird, wacky place. That was never more evident than today, when a UFC champion got to use the phrase “poopypants” multiple times and ask a possible future opponent if he knows how to spell “steroid” when the latter called into the champ’s radio show.

Yes, this seriously happened. And as usual, the whole thing began on social media.

Michael Bisping and Yoel Romero have been trading shots online recently, with Bisping calling out Romero for his USADA issues, and Romero cleverly posting setting up a GoFundMe for Bisping’s “medical expenses and his retirement party” after he beats him up. Today, Bisping started up again (while plugging his radio show) and quickly got a response from Romero:

Tune into @MMAonSiriusXM at 3pm for the #countdown. We have @madflavor joining us, plus I’ll be setting the midget @YoelRomeroMMA straight

— michael (@bisping) February 9, 2017

Let me guess “steroids” blah blah blah “I’m hurt” blah blah “I can’t see” blah blah and I won’t be a midget when I’m standing over you #ko https://t.co/9iOF6mlCNv

Somewhat understandably, Bisping returned fire by commenting on Yoel’s sudden strong command of the English language:

@YoelRomeroMMA @MMAonSiriusXM hey Yoel, I’m not gonna argue with your social media intern. But if you wanna talk call in 8447967874 #fake

So…Yoel called his bluff.

I’m on hold @bisping https://t.co/v4LqVIOixu

And then it actually happened. Michael Bisping took a call from Yoel Romero live on his radio show, and it…well, it was something. I’m not sure what. But it was something.

I’ll try to explain the best I can, but you really need to listen to it if you want to understand (sort of). They set up that Romero is calling, and clarify that it likely is the real Yoel Romero. He comes on and the audio isn’t very good, but it seems like Romero is yelling “you, me fight” a few times and “do you want to fight with me?”. Bisping constantly interrupts him, saying he’s looking at pictures of where Romero “s–t his pants” and calling him “poopypants.”

This is a reference to UFC Fight Night 35 in early 2014, where a stain in Romero’s shorts made it look like something bad happened.

Romero continues to speak, and not much of it makes sense. Bisping then switches the topic to steroids, and questions whether Romero writes his own tweets or not since they’re in English. So he asked him to spell “steroid”.

At that point, Romero hung up. After Bisping said he was going to post a picture of Romero’s “poopypants” incident, he told his wife that Romero called in, and his wife told him he was being immature.

Not exactly a stretch.

Bisping is coming off of successful knee surgery, and expects to return to the Octagon around May. Romero is likely to be his opponent.
