“I want to fight in both classes, I wanted the belt in both classes, but I’m coming soon. … I wanna kill somebody.”
Yoel Romero will look to make his Bellator debut in August after the former UFC middleweight title challenger was previously forced to withdraw from a light heavyweight bout against Anthony Johnson at Bellator 258.
Romero, who failed a pre-fight medical screening due to an eye injury, can’t wait to return to action and is ready to ‘kill somebody’ when he finally steps into the cage.
“The fans can see me very soon,” Romero said in a recent interview (via Middle Easy). “Maybe August. Maybe August, maybe 205 or maybe 185. I want to fight in both classes, I wanted the belt in both classes, but I’m coming soon. … I wanna kill somebody.”
It’s unlikely that Romero will get to fight ‘Rumble’ in his next fight but ‘Soldier of God’ believes they are both destined to cross paths in the future.
“Yes, I can see this fight happening,” Romero said. “I can see the face of this amazing athlete. This will happen, I think so.”
Romero and Johnson were originally scheduled to meet in the Bellator Light Heavyweight Grand Prix Quarter Finals but the latter ended up fighting Jose Augusto, who stepped in as Romero’s replacement. Johnson won the fight via second-round knockout and will advance to the semi-finals, where he will take on reigning Bellator light heavyweight champion Vadim Nemkov. Romero could potentially serve as a backup fighter should one man get injured prior to the fight.
The Cuban powerhouse is on a three-fight losing streak and hasn’t fought since his lackluster decision loss to Israel Adesanya at UFC 248.
