UFC 309’s heavyweight title matchup is finally getting a little spicy after Jon Jones caught Stipe Miocic engaging in a little ‘unnecessary disrespect’ during a promo video.

Jon Jones is getting fired up for his fight against Stipe Miocic after hearing his opponent say some disrespectful things during the UFC 309 Countdown show (watch it here).

On Sunday night, “Bones” shared a clip from the end of the hype program that showed Miocic declaring “I’m gonna hurt him a lot, I promise you that. I’m gonna beat his a— and walk out with the belt wrapped around my waist. Bring it on, b—h.”

Jones paused the Countdown show to reply.

“See the disrespect, you calling me a b—h, Stipe,” Jon said. “The disrespect didn’t have to happen. You’re gonna wish you didn’t say that.”

The UFC heavyweight champion also tweeted about it on X, writing “Hiring black fighters to mimic me will not help you Stipe. And you shouldn’t have called me a b—h, the disrespect wasn’t necessary. Let’s play.”

Is this Jones pulling a Michael Jordan and getting his competitive juices flowing for fight night? Or just a bit of last minute promotion?

Thus far things have been pretty respectful between Jones and Miocic … in fact we’d say the fight’s got a marked lack of spice due to all the time and energy spent on Jon not fighting Tom Aspinall, who holds the interim title. Now we finally have a little heat with Miocic, they guy Jon is fighting — although “Bones” suggesting there’s a racial component to Stipe’s training partner choices was weird.

It’s not entirely surprising, though: Jon is a man who once thought a clothing store was being offensive because their black jeans were labeled ‘negro’ … which means ‘black’ in Spanish.

Hey, anything to get fans appropriately hyped up for this clash of legends. Yeah, the best before date on this match-up expired around last November when it was originally supposed to go down. But Stipe is still the most decorated heavyweight champion in UFC history, and he’s not gonna wilt the second Jones takes the fight to the canvas like Ciryl Gane did.

All that UFC glaze seems to have made many forget that “Bones” hasn’t taken a heavyweight punch to the face since moving up. On November 16th, we’ll see how he fares. Then we’ll see how upset we need to be about his continued refusal to fight Tom Aspinall.
