Press Release – July 2, 2012 – Edmonton, Alberta, Canada – Aggression Fighting Championship (AFC), the fastest-growing MMA organization in Canada, has locked up one of the country’s brightest prospects in Graham Spencer. Training under the tutelage of John Punt in Nanaimo’s Impact MMA, the young, dynamic featherweight is thrilled to be joining the biggest promotion in Canada.

When asked about being the newest fighter on the AFC roster, Spencer had this to say: “I’ve wanted to fight again in the AFC since I was on their Edmonton card a couple years back. I’ve had a lot of my teammates fight for them in British Columbia, and the organization as a whole has always treated my teammates and myself great. This is the organization that will provide the fights I need to establish myself as the top featherweight in the country. I couldn’t be happier to be a part of the AFC.”

The fight he mentioned is in reference to his bout with Adam Lorenz, the only man ranked in front of Spencer who isn’t in the UFC. Graham has vacated his BFL title belt to pursue an opportunity with a bigger organization.

When Darren Owen of the AFC was asked about this signing and its significance, he had this to say: “Graham is a beast. I’ve had my eye on him for a long time and finally he’s coming to an organization where he belongs. I expect big things from him, and I know we’ll see him in the UFC sometime soon.”

The AFC has positioned itself as the leading promotion in Canada, holding events in Victoria, Calgary and Edmonton with expansion plans that include Vancouver as well as eastward into the Prairies.

Canadian Promotions Merge To Form Aggression Fighting Championships

Press Release – Edmonton, Alberta (Canada): The landscape of MMA in Canada has just shifted course with three dominant MMA organizations in Western Canada merging to create the single largest MMA organization in Canada, which will know be known as Aggression Fighting Championships. Press Release – Edmonton, Alberta (Canada): The landscape of MMA in Canada has just shifted course with three dominant MMA organizations in Western Canada merging to create the single largest MMA organization in Canada, which will know be known as Aggression Fighting Championships. Aggression MMA, Armageddon Fighting Championships, and AX Combat have now pooled their efforts in providing the best shows available to Canadian MMA fans under this new banner, which will now hold between nine and eleven fight events per year, with shows taking place in Edmonton and Calgary in Alberta, and Victoria, British Columbia – with expansion plans slated for the latter half of 2012.

The newly formed AFC will unveil its new branding shortly. Fight fans will get to see the new promotion in action at AFC 8 in Victoria on April 14th, AFC 9 in Edmonton June 8th, and AFC 10 in Calgary on June 15th. More details on these and upcoming events will be released shortly.

“Darren Owen of Armageddon and I have been seriously discussing the idea of merging for some time, and in the process reached out to AX Combat and determined that we had the same goals moving forward. We established that all three brands have similar philosophies of making sure that our fan base gets to see the best up-and-coming domestic and international fighters. So it made sense to offer fans across Canada a national brand, ultimately resulting in AFC,” stated Aggression Co-Founder Moin Mirza.

“This is by far the largest deal in Canadian MMA history, and I’m ecstatic to be a part of it,” said Armageddon Co-Founder Darren Owen. “It just makes sense to standardize matchmaking, contracts, logos, and production. Contracted fighters now have the opportunity to fight more frequently than they did before, which we are confident they will be happy about. With Armageddon’s current TV deal, the AFC will readily be available in 70 million homes, and now with increased content and expansion, the sky is the limit for AFC opportunities.”

“When AX was approached with this opportunity, I knew that I had a chance to be involved with something special,” explained AX Combat Co-Founder Steve Fader. “With partners like these, we all bring different strengths to the table and more importantly, this is a group that you can trust – a situation where you don’t need to be looking over your shoulder at all times. The deal makes sense for fans, fighters, and everyone involved, and I can’t wait to see how far the AFC can go.”

Ryan “The Real Deal” Ford (16-4) is one of the top MMA stars in Canada. Ford was upset by David Hulett in his last bout, but before that defeat, he had won four straight fights, as well as eight of his last nine, finishing all his victims on either punches or submissions. In 2011 alone, he conquered Johnny Davis, former UFC welterweight contender Karo Parisyan, and fellow top Canadian Nick Hinchliffe in succession. Now looking to rebound from the Hulett loss, “The Real Deal” is motivated with a burning desire to show the fight world he truly is the next elite Canadian fighter.

Edmonton, Alberta native and local favorite Victor “The Matrix” Valimaki (16-8), a former holder of the TFC Light Heavyweight Championship, will look to right the ship as he collides with another rising Canadian star in Tim Chemelli (8-1). A former UFC fighter, “The Matrix” is going through a rough streak in his career, but is determined to get back in the win column at the expense of his young foe. Valimaki holds victories over MMA legend Dan “The Beast” Severn, and UFC veterans Vernon “Tiger” White and Jason “Dooms” Day. Chemelli, a member of Team Sparta and a native of Alberta, has finished all eight of his opponents in his victories, but is coming off his first career loss. The defeat came at Aggression: “Unfinished Business” last year against Nick Penner. Now this finishing machine will look to come back strong and grab victory against a UFC vet in Valimaki.

Also competing on the card will be tough Canadians Stephan Beaumont, who is undefeated at 4-0, and strong Muay Thai fighter Markhaile “Showtime” Wedderburn will put their skill sets on display once again for the Aggression fans.

“What a stacked card ‘AMMA 9’ has turned out to be,” stated Aggression MMA Co-Owner Moin Mirza. “With the talent we’ve been able to bring in for this event, I would feel comfortable putting this card up against just about any other event here in Canada.”

Ryan “The Real Deal” Ford (16-4) is one of the top MMA stars in Canada. Ford was upset by David Hulett in his last bout, but before that defeat, he had won four straight fights, as well as eight of his last nine, finishing all his victims on either punches or submissions. Ford faces no easy task in his return bout, as he will step in the cage with rising star Tyson “The Man of” Steele (8-1). Also rumored to be on the radar of the UFC, Steele is one of the most exciting Canadian competitors on the circuit. Having never been to a decision, Steele has submitted seven of his eight victims, and knocked out the other one. A native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, the 6-foot tall Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu specialist is ready to add “The Real Deal” to his list of victims and make a huge splash in the process.

“This is a huge opportunity for me, and I am grateful to Aggression for making it happen,” says “The Man of” Steele. “I want to make it to the UFC, and this could be the fight that puts me one step closer to the call that every fighter dreams of. I know what I have to do to get there, and that’s take on the best and beat the best. Unfortunately for Ryan Ford, he’s put himself right in my path, and I’ve got to go through him.”

Edmonton, Alberta native and local favorite Victor “The Matrix” Valimaki (16-8), a former holder of the TFC Light Heavyweight Championship, will look to right the ship as he collides with another rising Canadian star in Tim Chemelli (8-1). Top Canadian 170-pounder to make AMMA debut Feb. 11th

Press Release – Edmonton, Alberta (Canada): Aggression MMA, one of the top MMA promotions in Canada, today announced that the promotion has signed rising welterweight star Sheldon Westcott to compete on its upcoming February 11th event. The name of Westcott’s opponent will be released shortly. As also recently revealed, also scheduled to compete at this exciting event is top Canadian welterweight Ryan “The Real Deal” Ford, rising star Tyson “The Man of” Steele, UFC vet Victor “The Matrix” Valimaki, and well-known Canadian competitors Tim Chemelli, “Big Bad” Stephen Beaumont, and Markhaile “Showtime” Wedderburn.

This event will take place at the Shaw Conference Center on Saturday, February 11th. Tickets are available over the phone at (780) 426-SOLD, or online at www.TNTTickets.ca. Many more exciting fights will be announced in the coming weeks!

“We are proud and excited to bring on a talent like Sheldon,” stated Aggression MMA Co-Owner Moin Mirza. “Having a talent like him join our roster shows that we are committed to growing MMA in Canada, and developing the best talent our country has to offer.”

Sheldon Westcott (5-1-1) is considered to be one of the most talented Canadian 170-pounders competing today, and is poised for a breakout 2012 campaign. Most recently, he competed in back-to-back fights against well-known veteran Thomas “Wildman” Denny. In their first bout, the 27-year old native of Alberta fought “Wildman” to a split-draw, which demanded an immediate rematch. This past June, Westcott got what he wanted, securing a dominant unanimous decision victory utilizing superior ground control in a highly-entertaining affair.

Now with Aggression, this blue-chip prospect is ready to leave his up-and-comer status behind and enter into the rarified air of a bona fide championship threat.

“We are very excited to showcase a fighter like Sheldon in our stacked welterweight division,” said Aggression MMA Co-Owner Harvey Panesar. “We feel that Aggression can provide the platform for all our fighters to showcase their talents and achieve their goals, and that includes Sheldon.”
