Alexander Gustafsson targets a fight with one title contender for an upcoming UFC event. This fight would be against Corey Anderson at a show in London. Gustafsson wants to waste no time in 2019 in order to get his next fight booked and have a quick turnaround.

The title contender took to social media in order to make this call out as he wrote the following on his official Instagram account:

“Corey, everyone else at the top is taken,” Gustafsson posted on Monday, “I am eager to get right back inside the cage, You just had a good fight with my brother. So I think it’s the perfect time for us to throw down. Let’s dance on the London card March 16th.”

Anderson is currently on a three-fight winning streak. In his last two fights, back in July, he picked up a decision win over former title contender Glover Teixeira at UFC Hamburg. Most recently at UFC 232, he beat Ilir Latifi by unanimous decision.

Gustafsson is fresh off a loss to Jon Jones with the vacant UFC light heavyweight title being on the line at UFC 232. He earned this title shot with a stoppage victory over Teixeira in 2017.

Alexander Gustafsson offered some high praise to UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones following their contest at UFC 232. UFC cameras were able to capture footage where both men shared a moment in the Octagon. This is when the title contender told the new champ that he’s ‘the best fighter in the world.’

You can see the video as well as the transcript (h/t Jesse Holland of MMA Mania) here:

Jones: “I know you’re not going anywhere.”

Gustafsson: “I’m not going fucking anywhere. You were great. You’re the best in the world.”

Jones: “Thanks man. You’re a bad man.”

Jones beat Gustafsson via TKO in the main event of UFC 232. This marked the second time that they fought each other. Back in 2013 at UFC 165, Jones successfully retained his light heavyweight title over Gustafsson by unanimous decision. It’s arguably the greatest light heavyweight bout in the history of the Las Vegas-based promotion.

Jon Jones has once again reclaimed the UFC’s light heavyweight throne, and he already has an eager challenger.

Last week (Sat. December 29, 2018) Jones defeated Alexander Gustafsson to capture the vacant 205-pound title. “Bones” was able to get a takedown and batter the Swede on the ground in the third round. He picked up a third-round TKO as a result of his ground-and-pound. After the fight, Jones was called out by rising light heavyweight star Anthony Smith.

Smith has been on a tear through the division lately, and a fight against “Bones” next certainly makes sense. There has been some back-and-forth regarding when and where the fight might take place. But Jones is ready nonetheless. He recently took to Instagram to reveal he’s already studying tape on “Lionheart”:

“So much to study, this is going to be fun”

Recently, Smith told TMZ that his management is already working on sorting something out to fight Jones this year (via MMA Junkie):

“It sounds like he’s in,” Smith said. “Of course, [my manager] has already been talking to the UFC and I think that they’re working that out and seeing what that looks like as far as timelines and stuff, but I’m in.”
