UFC heavyweights Alexander Volkov and Jairzinho Rozenstruik will clash at UFC Vegas 56. Both fighters are looking to rebound from losing their last fight.

Volkov hopes to climb back into the top five of the UFC Heavyweight rankings with a win this Saturday. He lost his last fight to Tom Aspinall by submission at UFC London on Mar. 19. The loss pushed Volkov down the rankings from sixth to seventh. A win over Rozenstruik would keep him at his current rank, but it could also lead to fighting someone in the top five next.

Rozenstruik is looking to get on a winning streak with a win over Volkov. Since his knockout loss to current UFC Heavyweight Champion Francis Ngannou at UFC 249, he’s won two out of his last four fights. His most recent loss was against Curtis Blaydes by unanimous decision at UFC 266. An impressive win over Volkov would move him up the rankings and closer to re-entering title contention.

EXCLUSIVE: Jairzinho Rozenstruik Previews Fight With Alexander Volkov, Talks Aspinall vs. Blaydes & Jon Jones-Stipe Miocic Title Fight

Jairzinho Rozenstruik

UFC heavyweight Jairzinho Rozenstruik will headline UFC Fight Night 207 against Alexander Volkov this June 4.

In an interview with LowKick MMA, Rozenstruik shared his thoughts on his upcoming match against Volkov. ‘Bigi Boy’ believes the fight will mostly be on the feet and any error in the cage will lead to a quick finish.

“I think it can be a stand-up fight because he’s also a striker. I know he has some jiu-jitsu but mostly I think is going to be stand-up. Yeah, we’re going to see how it plays out. Of course, I’m looking for a win,” Rozenstruik continued, “When I see him, I’ll be there. He’s a big guy, he’s a big tree so I’ll be more moving, finding my angles and try to land what I can land and then see how he reacts. But I would say any error, any mistakes you’re out”

James Lynch probed the Surinamese fighter about Tom Aspinall’s recent win over Volkov and whether he was surprised about that.

“Actually I think it was expectable that Tom is good but I didn’t expect it to be so early in the match. So, I was surprised about that.”

The knockout artist gave props to Aspinall and speculated what might have led to Volkov’s loss. “I think maybe he’s (Aspinall) that excellent,” Rozenstruik added. “It’s the moment, it’s the time you had the fight, you don’t know what happened. Anything can happen.”

Jairzinho Rozenstruik on Aspinall v. Blaydes

Coming off a loss to Curtis Blaydes, Jairzinho Rozenstruik will fight against an opponent who was defeated by Blaydes’s next adversary, Aspinall. With the top and rising heavyweights being matched up against each other, Rozenstruik is excited to see how things play out.

“I think it’s a pretty good matchup. I know those fights are going to come, same as the fight with Ciryl Gane and Tuivasa. The whole heavyweight division is kinda booked so it’s going to be awesome after all these fights so we know where we stand and who we going to face after this.”

The 34-year-old does not seem to be concerned with who wins the contest and is ready to take on whoever comes out on top.

“I don’t really care who wins. For me, the most important thing is who I’m going to face after this. If it’s going to be him or Blaydes or somebody else. I hope it play out good for them and then I face one of them after.”

Jairzinho Rozenstruik on Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic

When Jon Jones announced his move to heavyweight over two years ago, fans were excited to see the greatest mixed martial artist compete against the big boys. There have been strong indications suggesting Jones will take on the greatest heavyweight of all-time in the UFC, Stipe Miocic, in his debut fight in the division.

While Jairzinho Rozenstruik believes the fight makes sense for the fans, he shared his discontent with the possibility of it being for the interim UFC heavyweight title.

“I definitely think it’s the fight to make for the fans,” he said. “But I disagree with him coming in and fighting for the title because we’ve been there running the division. He doesn’t, he was on the side sitting and saying he’s coming to heavyweight. At first, I was motivated that he’s coming to heavyweight, it can be a possible fight. It takes so long, what two years, two years and a half. So I kinda disagree with that that he wasn’t fighting doing anything and he jumped right in for the title.”

Jairzinho Rozenstruik

A matchup of heavyweight striking talents, the #7 ranked contender, Alexander Volkov, and the #8 rated knockout finisher, Jairzinho Rozenstruik has been booked to take main event honors at UFC Fight Night 207 on June 4. At the time of publication, an official venue or location for the promotion’s event has yet to be determined.

Headlining for his second event running, Volkov most recently took curtain closing status at The O2 Arena for UFC London last month – suffering an opening round straight armbar loss to the unbeaten Atherton native, Tom Aspinall in front of a raucous home crowd.

For Jairzinho Rozenstruik, the Suriname puncher featured on the main card of UFC 266 back in September in his most recent Octagon outing – where he dropped a unanimous decision loss to UFC Columbus victor, Curtis Blaydes over the course of three rounds. Brett Okamoto of ESPN MMA was first to report the heavyweight headliner on June 4.

Landing a whopping 22 career knockouts from a total 34 career victories, Moscow-born kickboxing ace, Volkov managed to achieve heavyweight gold under the M-1 Global banner before his move to the UFC back in November 2016.

Akin to Rozenstruik, Volkov embarked on a four-fight run of consecutive victories under the banner of the UFC – most notably taking out former undisputed heavyweight champion, Fabricio Werdum in another London main event in March 2018.

Dropping losses to Derrick Lewis, common-foe Blaydes, and former interim champion, Ciryl Gane since – Volkov has managed to nab wins over Greg Hardy, Walt Harris, Alistair Overeem, and Polish standout, Marcin Tybura since. Back in December 2012, Volkov also clinched the vacant Bellator heavyweight championship.

Jairzinho Rozenstruik has landed knockout stoppages in 11 of his 12 professional victories

Rozenstruik, a trainee at American Top Team under head coach, Michael Babb – has so far landed a 6-3 promotional record with the UFC since his February 2019 landing.

Slated for his fourth headlining bracket since his move to the Octagon – Rozenstruik rallied from much adversity in his first main event at UFC Fight Night D.C. against the common-foe, Overeem – stopping the kickboxing ace with a bruising knockout with just six seconds left in their showdown.

Last June, Jairzinho Rozenstruik stopped Brazilian heavyweight, Augusto Sakai – coming as his most recent headliner and his most recent professional victory to boot.

A clash between UFC heavyweight contenders Alexander Volkov and Jairzinho Rozenstruik will headline the promotion’s June 4 Fight Night card.

While Volkov, ranked #7, will be making his second appearance of the year, Rozenstruik, currently sat at #8 on the divisional ladder, will make the walk to the Octagon for the first time in 2022.

Both men will be looking to rebound having fallen short in their respective last outings. The bout was first reported by ESPN MMA’s Brett Okamoto.

Volkov (34-10), a former Bellator heavyweight champion, is a 12-fight UFC veteran who’s competed in the Octagon since 2016. Among his notable wins in the promotion are victories over Roy Nelson, Stefan Struve, Fabricio Werdum, and Alistair Overeem.

In his recent appearances, the Russian has traded wins and losses. After a five-round setback to Ciryl Gane last June, Volkov quickly bounced back in Abu Dhabi with a decision triumph against Marcin Tybura at UFC 267. But at UFC London last month, “Drago” fell victim to the all-round game of rising star Tom Aspinall. In his attempt to rebound on June 4, Volkov will be appearing in his seventh UFC main event.

Rozenstruik (12-3), meanwhile, will be headlining a card on MMA’s biggest stage for the fourth time. The Surinamese powerhouse broke through as a mainstream attraction thanks to four knockouts in his first four Octagon appearances, including against former champion Andrei Arlovski and Overeem.

But at the hands of current champion Francis Ngannou in 2020, Rozenstruik suffered his first professional defeat, and in brutal fashion. Since a 20-second KO loss to “The Predator,” the 34-year-old has gone 2-2, with victories over Junior dos Santos and Augusto Sakai joined by setbacks against Gane and Curtis Blaydes.

Rozenstruik was scheduled to face Tybura at UFC 273 earlier this month, but the Pole withdrew days before the event due to sickness.

After a disappointing performance against “Razor” in his most recent fight last September, Rozenstruik will hope to return to his sleep-inducing KOs when he shares the Octagon with Volkov on June 4.

The current fights expected to take place on June 4 are as follows:

Alexander Volkov vs. Jairzinho Rozenstruik (heavyweight main event)

Dan Ige vs. Movsar Evloev (featherweight)

Joaquin Buckley vs. Abusupiyan Magomedov (middleweight)

Jeff Molina vs. Zhalgas Zhumagulov (flyweight)

Ode’ Osbourne vs. Zarrukh Adashev (flyweight)

Poliana Botelho vs. Karine Silva (women’s strawweight)

Andreas Michailidis vs. Rinat Fakhretdinov (middleweight)

Who do you think wins this Octagon-shaking collision, Alexander Volkov or Jairzinho Rozenstruik?

Heavyweight champion Tyson Fury is all in on Tom Aspinall this weekend, as he is cheering for him to beat Alexander Volkov at UFC London.

Fury and Aspinall were former sparring partners and the two trained together for nearly two years. Aspinall was one of the fighters that helped Fury get back on track after his long battle with depression and substance abuse.

Aspinall finds himself fighting amongst some of the UK’s biggest stars that include Paddy Pimblett, Arnold Allen, and many more. The event is set to have some fantastic scraps.

Tyson Fury made a video to hype up the fight and root for Tom Aspinall

“I just want to wish my buddy Tom Aspinall all the best in his upcoming UFC heavyweight fight. Good luck Tom, do the business. Smash his face in! Get up there, my boy, all the way to the motherf**king bank, man.” (H/T Sportskeeda)

Aspinall is one of the best up and coming fighters in the entire organization. He is currently undefeated in the division and is thought to be the next title challenger. He currently has finishes in all four of his fights inside the UFC.

He has TKO’s over Sergey Spivak, Alan Baudot, and Jake Collier. He also has a submission victory over UFC great and former champion, Andrei Arlovski. He was able to catch Arlovski in a rear naked choke in the second round. His other wins were all first round finishes.

Fury on the other hand, has a fight lined up with Dillian Whyte that will take place on April 23rd. The two British fighters will square off in a highly anticipated fight, that could lead to Fury either fighting Anthony Joshua or Oleksandr Usykfter afterwards.

Do you think Tom Aspinall wins this weekend in London against Alexander Volkov?
