Michael Bisping and Anthony Smith don’t agree with Andrew Tate’s stance on Brazilian jiu-jitsu being unreliable in street fights.

During his YouTube show, Bisping and Smith reacted to a video of Andrew Tate calling Brazilian jiu-jitsu “useless” in the street.

“BJJ is absolutely useless outside the cage or your dojo…It’s useless. You can’t do a double-leg takedown on concrete. You’re going to f**k yourself up. Even if you do take him down to the ground, many submissions don’t work if he can bite or he can scratch your eyes or if he can pull a knife,” Tate said. “Thirdly, you don’t know if he has friends. You’re going to take him to the ground, put him in an arm bar and his friends are going to f**king football kick you in the head or curb stomp you and you’re going to die. The number one rule of street fighting is stay on your feet.”

Michael Bisping disagreed with Tate’s stance on BJJ. He said the technique is different when someone is fighting a one-on-one fight.

“Some elements of what he said there is correct that you don’t want to do a double-leg takedown on the street cause I’ve said that. If you’re fighting multiple people and you take someone down and get on top of them, yeah of course the friends will run up behind you…In a one-on-one environment, if you’re going up against another man. A black in jiu-jitsu versus someone that’s not, I’ll take the black belt all day long.”

Michael Bisping Doesn’t Think Biting and Scratching Plays A Factor In A Street Fight

The MMA legend also addressed how biting and scratching are unreliable on the ground. He says BJJ moves are way more lethal. Smith also reiterated how biting is not reliable in a BJJ scenario.

“One singular martial art. There’s always going to be a give and a take,” Smith said. “He’s going to be devastating from the outside but if someone gets a hold of you and you don’t know any jiu-jitsu at all, you’re proper f**ked.”

Notably, Michael Bisping is a brown belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu while Smith is a black belt. Tate is known as a long-time kickboxer. He’s also competed in three professional MMA fights. His last MMA fight was in 2010.

Anthony Smith Jamahal Hill Glover Teixeira UFC title

‘Lionheart’ Anthony Smith and ‘Sweet Dreams’ Jamahal Hill were booked to fight each other later next year, but now instead they will be working alongside one another in the gym to get ready for a title shot.

At UFC 282 earlier this month, the vacant UFC light heavyweight title was fought over between Jan Blachowicz and Magomed Ankalaev, however this fight ended in a draw. Quickly the UFC brass got on the phone and set up a clash for the vacant throne between the former world champion Glover Teixeira and the US-born Jamahal Hill.

The two American athletes Smith and Hill were booked in March 2023 for a top-ranked showdown. But UFC pulled Hill out of that match to face Teixeira for the title at UFC 283 on January 21 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Jamahal Hill and Anthony Smith agree to help each other

In the UFC, the 31-year-old Jamahal Hill has earned a three-fight win streak all won via KO/TKO. On his path to his title shot, ‘Sweet Dreams’ has stopped Jimmy Crute, Johnny Walker, and Thiago Santos. To help him get ready for Teixeira, Hill has enlisted a former opponent of the Brazilian veteran; Anthony Smith. Smith fought Brazil’s Teixeira in 2020 for five rounds before losing via TKO.

While speaking with Fanatics View, Jamahal Hill explained the enlistment. He said:

“I’ve talked with Derek Brunson, thinking of getting him out here. Antony Smith, ‘Lionheart.’ Yeah, in the phone call where we talked about it I asked him, I was like, ‘Hey, bro. I need you. If you’re willing to step [up] and help me and let me know what your experience of dealing with this opponent, I would more than appreciate that.’ And he was amazing, bro … He understands the game. He was like, ‘It sucks for me.’ He didn’t have any ill [will] toward me or nothing. He was actually happy for me.”

Even though Anthony Smith no longer had a scheduled match, he was happy for Hill for getting a shot at the throne. ‘Sweet Dreams’ added what the gameplan will be:

“I want to get him (Teixeira) out of there. That’s how I see it playing out. If I gotta take my time and beat him up and put it on him until I get him out of there, I feel like I can get him out of there, but if I don’t then just beat him up. Assert my dominance as the champion.” [Transcript courtesy of MMA Mania]

While Jamahal Hill just got an early Christmas present from the UFC in the form of a fight for the vacant light heavyweight title, Anthony Smith got cast away like moldy bread by Dana White and co.

Anthony Smith and Jamahal Hill were initially scheduled to fight in march of 2023, but last night at UFC 282, Dana White would break some shocking news. The UFC president would carefully explain that the main event between Jan Blachowicz and Magomed Ankalaev was “boring”, and instead of running the fight back (as it ended in a draw), the UFC would instead target a new fight.

This new bout would not feature Anthony Smith, but it would feature the man Smith was supposed to battle next year in march: Jamahal Hill. Hill would now be facing former champion Glover Teixeira, for the vacant light heavyweight title in Brazil. What made this news even worse, though, was the fact that Smith himself was working as a broadcaster for the UFC during this time and received the news live on PPV in front of his coworkers.

His colleague Laura Sanko would begin the dialogue on the situation with a minor breakdown of events. Of course, everybody wanted to see Smith’s reaction. However, it was extremely mature, and he handled the news well.

“Uh, yeah, that’s a problem for me. Yeah, that’s a big problem for me…I don’t know,” Anthony Smith would say on air, obviously flustered and at a loss.

“I have so much respect for you, digesting this news right now because, as your friend and colleague, to have that Jamahal Hill fight go away, and now he’s going to be fighting Glover Teixeira for the title. I don’t even know what to say, man,” Jon Anik would chime in.

So, it would be a tragic day for Anthony Smith indeed. Fans can only hope the UFC and Dana White will make things right with him for this rude and sudden change of plans.

Who do you think Anthony Smith will fight now that Jamahal Hill faces Glover Teixeira for the vacant light heavyweight title?

Conor McGregor Anthony Smith, Dustin Poirier

UFC light heavyweight Anthony Smith has heard the ongoing trash talk between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier. ‘Lionheart’ weighs in on a potential fourth match between these two UFC stars.

McGregor and Poirier have been going back and forth on Twitter recently. Poirier has been recovering from a severe staph infection which hospitalized the UFC lightweight.

In a since-deleted Tweet, the Irish-born McGregor said: “Heal up soon scruffy knickers.” Poirier responded: “You done filming Roid House and ready to get slapped around again!?” To which the Dublin athlete finished with: “Ye I’m in Amsterdam jacked like van damn. You weren’t just hurt pal. You were scared hurt don’t forget it. I’m coming back to put you in a box. Full of it. I’m sending you off this earth. Permanent. Stay waiting for the road house as well pal you and the missus will love it”

‘Notorious’ Conor McGregor has said he is looking for a fight in 2023, and Poirier seems to be responding well to antibiotics. Fortunately, he seems to be recovering from his infection. With the timing aligning and the trash talk cooking, there is potential to see Dustin Poirier vs Conor McGregor 4. Currently, their trilogy has Poirier at two wins to McGregors one.

Anthony Smith talks Dustin Poirier vs Conor McGregor 4

While speaking with Michael Bisping on the Believe You Me Podcast, Anthony Smith discussed the potential for this fight. He said:

“I don’t want to pull back the curtain too far here Mike. But, we all know the price tag that probably comes with a Conor McGregor fight. So you can say all you want, ‘Oh, I don’t want it.’ I love Dustin Poirier. I love everything he stands for, Dustin’s full of sh*t. He’s going to take that paycheck any chance he gets, and I’m here to watch it. I’ll buy it, and I’ll put money in his pocket. I’m here for it, just for the buildup.”

On his prediction for the match, Smith explained:

“[McGregor] wasn’t really in either of those last two fights. I’m a huge Dustin Poirier mark. I’ll buy everything he sells, I’ll watch any fight he’s in, but taking my biases out of it, he’s just better. It’s just a fact. [The leg break] is a built-in excuse… It’s like the Nate Diaz cut in the Masvidal fight. It’s very similar, he was going to lose anyways.” [Transcript courtesy of BJ Penn]
