Press Release – (October 29th.12) BAMMA is proud to announce a Middleweight Mixed Martial Arts bout to headline the BAMMA 11 card at Birmingham’s National Indoor Arena on 1st December, as Jack Marshman faces Xavier Foupa-Pokam.
Fresh off a decision loss to Claudio Henrique da Silva at the weekend, Xavier Foupa-Pokam or “Professor X” hails from Paris in France with a record of 22-18-0; and is currently signed non-exclusively to Indian promotion, Super Fight League. The 30 year old shot to recognition during his brief stint in the UFC, and through his long career in British MMA, with Cage Rage and later with BAMMA. With the majority of his victories by Knock Out, Foupa-Pokam holds notable conquests over Alex Reid, Tom Watson and Pierre Guillet. He has also faced tough names that include Paul Daley, Ninja Rua and Alex Makhonin (at BAMMA 5); and brings a wealth of experience back into the BAMMA cage.
With the support of the British Forces behind him, the atmosphere when paratrooper Jack Marshman hits the cage is never short of electric. Marshman (11-1-0) made his mark at BAMMA 7 when he survived a Ground n Pound attack to flip fortune around and win the BAMMA-Lonsdale British Middleweight belt. Following an effective title defence against Barnes at BAMMA 8, Marshman went on to unsuccessfully challenge Tom ‘Kong’ Watson for the World title at BAMMA 9, gaining his first loss. Marshman returned at BAMMA 10 to once more defend his British title, this time against Andrew Punshon. However he forfeited the Lonsdale belt when he weighed in heavier than agreed, and the fight went ahead as a non-title bout. Previously renowned for his exemplary striking and extraordinary resilience on the ground, Marshman surprised submission specialist, Punshon, with his ground game and submitted him with a Triangle Choke in the first round.
Jack Marshman said:
“I’m feeling really good and I’m excited about this fight, mainly as this is my first bout at international level and it’s a step up I’m ready for. I always like to think I’m more well-rounded than people think, and I showed fans that I’m much more than a boxer in my last fight. I’m up against someone who is experienced and skilled in all areas, so I will definitely need to prove that I’m a rounded fighter as I’m coming for the win. I’m really looking forward to returning to Birmingham for a third time. Both my most exciting fights have been in Birmingham and I expect it to be as exciting this time both for me and the fans.”

Press Release – (October 29th.12) Nathan Greyson, due to fight Bryan Creighton at BAMMA 11, has been forced to withdraw from the Bantamweight Mixed Martial Arts bout due to a fracture to the hand incurred during sparring. Creighton will now face replacement Dawid Farycki in the preliminaries at Birmingham’s National Indoor Arena on 1st December.
Originating from Poland, Dawid Farycki trains out of London’s Team Titan with a record of 2-0-0 and is signed to Elite MMA Agency. Neither of the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu blue belt’s professional bouts has seen the distance, with victories by first round Armbar and second round Arm Triangle Choke.
Farycki said:
“I am very happy to have the opportunity to fight for BAMMA. This is very important to me and it will be a big step up in my career, if I put up a good fight and win. I am very excited for the event and can’t wait to see my opponent inside the cage on 1st of December. My opponent is a strong, well-rounded fighter: I have seen fights where he knocks people out and I’ve seen him pulling submissions on other guys. In my opinion he is a tough opponent, but I train in the best gym in the country and I believe I am ready for him.”
BAMMA’s Managing Director, Ashley Bothwell, said:
“It’s always disappointing to see fighters having to pull out and very frustrating for them. The BAMMA team wishes Dyson and Nathan speedy recoveries and we look to seeing them on BAMMA in future. On the other hand, I’m looking forward to seeing Dawid step into the BAMMA cage. He’s phenomenally dangerous on the ground, while Fusilier Creighton is a highly decorated striker. Both fighters have the capacity to challenge each other in the area that will be most damaging and both are fearless. I can guarantee that sparks will fly when these two enter the cage.”

Press Release – (London. 25th Oct.12) The Centre of Health and Human Performance at 76 Harley Street, London is proud to announce the launch of SAFE MMA.
SAFE MMA is a not for profit organisation established to improve the safety of MMA fighters in the UK. Under the Safe MMA banner, the medical centre provides a secure, centralised and confidential database for fighter medical records; and coordinates affordable, standardised blood and medical tests for all registered fighters. Additionally, SAFE MMA members will have access to advice from leading world experts in sports medicine.
UK promotions Cage Warriors, BAMMA and UCMMA united to help found the project and have agreed that from 1st January 1013 all fighters on their cards must be registered to SAFE MMA and undergo annual medical tests and bi-annual blood tests. The promotions have agreed only to use fighters that are deemed medically safe to fight under the SAFE MMA (green light) system and not to use fighters that are suspended due to injuries, such as concussion, or who are overdue for blood tests, for example. Additionally, the promotions have pledged to have medical professionals carry out pre- and post-fight tests with all results to be submitted to the confidential medical database at 76 Harley St. Medical data will never be transmitted to anyone but SAFE MMA will be able to give a rapid and all-hours service to inform authorised promotions of who is medically safe to fight and who needs to be rechecked, at the time of enquiry.
Nominal annual registration fees for fighters (£235 + GP medical), fighters’ gyms (£60 – £240) and new promotions (£600) cover the running costs of the project, which is not for profit; and annual accounts will be published publicly on the SAFE MMA website. All other UK promotions will be able to apply for Safe MMA membership. (See ‘Ends’ for full details of Fighter Passport service provided by 76 Harley St and covered by fighter registration fee).
The British Medical Association now wants MMA banned. 76 Harley Street will speak out in defence of SAFE MMA promotions. The SAFE MMA project involves the collation of anonymous statistics for medical research into fighter safety, injuries, rehabilitation and performance. If a severe accident or fatality occurs and a promotion falls under investigation, statistical back-up via the SAFE MMA database can be drawn on, appropriate safety measures can be shown to be in place and medical expert opinion can be sought.
SAFE MMA is run on a voluntary basis, headed by leading experts from the world of Sports Medicine: Professor Greg Whyte is the preeminent authority on Physiology, Sports Performance and Rehabilitation in the UK. Alongside Clinical Director, Dr Jack Kreindler, Whyte specialises in optimising athletic performance for Olympic and extreme sports. Dr. Michael Loosemore provides medical expertise to the Amateur Boxing Association of England and has travelled extensively with national squads to Olympic and Commonwealth Games, and World and European Championships. Loosemore is the Chief Medical Officer for the Commonwealth Games. 76 Harley Street attracts a host of elite international sports names.
Alongside the founding promotions, MMA advisors to the project include top world ranked Flyweight fighter and osteopath, Dr. Rosi Sexton and internationally renowned referee, Marc Goddard – both of whom have been involved in the British MMA scene since its inception and active in the promotion of fighter wellbeing. Marc Goddard runs the only accepted MMA Referee course in the UK. Additional support to the project has been provided by Cage Warrior’s commentator, John Gooden, and Izzy Carnwath (BAMMA PR).
SAFE MMA is working closely with the newly formed UK MMA Federation, with Marc Goddard and Rosi Sexton having interim membership to both boards.
Benefits to SAFE MMA members include:
yearly medical & six-monthly blood tests active confidential database for fighters well-being and current medical status member promotions using athletes found only within the confidential, medical database and whose gyms are Safe MMA registered listed promotions enforcing medically advised suspensions to athletes under the register an affordable cost access to sports based medical advice that fighters can trust Cage Warriors, BAMMA and UCMMA urge all fighters, UK promotions and gyms to register to the project and help establish health and safety standards for MMA in the UK.
Rosi Sexton said:
“SAFE MMA is the way forward. It gives fighters the reassurance of knowing that their safety is being taken seriously, and will help the legitimacy and reputation of our sport as a whole. This is a milestone for UKMMA, and I’d urge all fighters, coaches and promoters to support it and get involved.”
Director of UCMMA, Dave O’Donnell commented:
“It’s been a long time in the making, but at last steps are being made to make MMA safe in this country. Fighters want it, trainers want it and so do promotions: SAFE MMA is the best thing to happen for this sport for years. UCMMA and myself are behind this 100%. It’s going to take time and not going to be easy but Rome wasn’t built in a day; so let’s get building and bring this sport to the next level.”
BAMMA’s VP of Talent Relations, Jude Samuel said:
“BAMMA is really proud to be on board with SAFE MMA. The launch of this project marks a major step forward for MMA in this country as different promotions have at last come together to focus on the wider issues affecting the sport. One thing we all have in common is a concern for the medical safety of athletes. I urge all UK promotions, gyms and fighters to join us in signing up to SAFE MMA to make a stand for fighter safety and to help protect and legitimise the sport in the UK.”
Cage Warrior’s director, Graham Boylan said:
“This initiative is a huge step in the right direction for MMA in the UK. The sport in this country is still in its infancy to an extent so we at Cage Warriors welcome the introduction of SAFE MMA and we’re very pleased to be involved.
“The safety and well-being of fighters is our utmost priority. We’ve always endeavoured to do things the right way for the good of fighters’ health. Last year we introduced mandatory blood-testing, which one is just one example of what needs to be done.
“Fighters sacrifice so much and really put themselves on the line, so the onus is on the likes of us to introduce measures to ensure that it’s possible for them to showcase their talents in as safe an environment as possible.
“The introduction of SAFE MMA will bring UK MMA another step closer to where it needs to be and I would urge all fighters, gyms and promotions to get involved. This really is essential for the future of our sport. As long as this is in place and supported well it will be a game-changer for MMA in this country.”
Marc Goddard said:
“I am very excited and personally thrilled at the launch of SAFE MMA here in the UK. Since its inception and our initial discussions the goal for me has been clear – to help raise and maintain the safety standards by which Mixed Martial Artists compete here in the UK. For me there was simply no other place to start, other than the single most important aspect of MMA competition – the safest possible environment in which fighters can compete. Bringing together the UK’s leading and most established promotions under a single common goal was also a huge personal achievement for me.
Together we strive for the same end goal, but without the commitment of these major organisations to the concept of SAFE, our initial launch would have been so much more arduous. Even more excitingly the later birth of the UKMMAF, which will have dual member representation in the form of myself and my colleague Rosi Sexton, created a unique opportunity which allowed for mutual recognition between the UKMMAF and SAFE MMA. SAFE MMA with its solely unique approach to covering only the medical and safety aspect makes for a smooth transition, and an almost “plug-in” medical advisory application instantly in tandem with the growth of the additional facets that a full and true Governing Body will bring.
SAFE MMA welcomes all willing participants and new member promotions who also share in the same aim as the founding organisations. I very much look forward to the growth of member applicants into 2013 and beyond. The SAFE MMA project has been a long time coming.”

Press Release – (October 17th.12) BAMMA is proud to announce its first Lightweight British title bout to the BAMMA 11 card at Birmingham NIA on 1st December, as Steve Ray takes on Dale Hardiman in a Mixed Martial Arts contest for the first BAMMA Lonsdale British Lightweight belt.
Hailing from Scotland and training at Dinky Ninjas, Judo black belt Steve “Braveheart” Ray has been dominant on the Scottish circuit. Presenting a professional MMA record of 11-3-0 and with the On Top Welterweight title under his belt, Ray drops in weight for BAMMA 11 to take a shot at the new BAMMA Lonsdale British Lightweight title belt.
Dale ‘The Hurricane” Hardiman steps into the BAMMA cage with a professional record of 9-3-0. The Luton fighter earned a string of 1st round submission wins before debuting at BAMMA on BAMMA 7 where he defeated Scott Jansen via Rear Naked Choke in the 2nd round. Hardiman returned for BAMMA 10 to victor over Antanas Jazbutis by unanimous decision and now comes off the back of a KO victory against Israeli Ido Pariente.
Steve Ray said:
“I’m feeling really motivated for this fight as it is a huge opportunity for me fighting for this title. I always put in 100% to my training and this will be no different as I know Dale is a tough fighter. I have recently moved my training base and have joined the new Dinky Ninja gym which has UK stand-outs like Graham Turner, Martin Delaney and James Doolan, so they will be working me hard for this camp. I moved down to Lightweight a few fights ago and feel really strong at that weight. I will be looking to finish the fight at any opportunity. I have various Submission wins on my record and love to knock guys out!
“My only message for Dale is: I respect you as a fighter but I am not coming down from Scotland to leave empty handed. I am preparing for a war so, I hope you are.”
BAMMA’s Head of Talent Relations, Jude Samuel, said:
“I’m thrilled that two fighters with the skill and calibre that Dale and Ray have will be representing as England and Scotland collide in a battle for the very first BAMMA Lonsdale British Lightweight title. I expect this fight to be an epic skills showdown between two dynamic athletes who show real mastery of their trade.”

(October 17th.12) BAMMA is proud to announce a Mixed Martial Arts clash between Light Heavyweights Marcin Lazarz and Sam Mensah for BAMMA 11 at Birmingham’s National Indoor Arena on 1st December.
London based Polish fighter, Marcin Lazarz, fights out of Team Titan and stands undefeated with a record of 4-0-0. His last fight earned him a TKO victory over Neil Bittong and earlier wins include 1 Submission and 2 Unanimous Decisions.
BAMMA 10 saw Team Trojan’s Sam Mensah knock out Mike Neun in 8 seconds flat and score the fastest KO in BAMMA history. The triumph came on the back of a 19 second TKO win and two previous 1st round finishes, also by TKO. After just 5 fights, Mensah is currently ranked at number 12 in the UK rankings.
Lazarz said:
“I am so excited about this: I’ve been waiting for my chance to fight on a show like BAMMA for a long time and this is it…..my time is coming. This is a key fight for me and I’m going to make use of it. My opponent is a good stand-up fighter with an aggressive style and a lot of physical power. On 1st December I’m going to be ready for everything that my opponent has to offer. I’ll be training harder than ever for this fight and it’s going to be a war!”
Mensah said:
“It’s a pleasure to have the opportunity to fight on BAMMA again. I’m really looking forward to this clash. Lazarz sounds like a tough opponent and I’m sure he’s going to bring it just like me. I’m coming for the stoppage, however it comes. Lazarz looks like he does the same, so the fans can expect fireworks on the night.”
BAMMA’s Head of Talent Relations, Jude Samuel, said:
“Mensah enthralled fans at BAMMA 10 with his earth shattering 8 second KO. Mensah has a habit of finishing his opponents within the first minute and his fights are never short of compelling. Undefeated Lazarz comes with the same number of wins but a very different style. Coming from a grappling background, with two victories on Unanimous Decision Lazarz certainly has the gas, while Mensah has never gone the distance. This match pitches endurance against fast twitch knock out power. Will Lazarz push Mensah out of his comfort zone or will Lazarz run into a fast, dramatic stoppage?”

(October 17th.12) BAMMA is proud to announce two further Mixed Martial Arts fights to the BAMMA 11 card at Birmingham’s National Indoor Arena on 1st December: Thomas Denham and Mike Neun are scheduled to open the night with a fierce Light Heavyweight bout; while Andrew Fisher and Diego Vital will be competing at Featherweight.
Denham vs. Neun
Thomas Denham carries a professional MMA record of 4-2-0. Fresh off a 57 second title win against David Wilson three weeks ago, Denham is the current Knuckleforce Light Heavyweight champion. Denham comes from a wrestling background, in which he was the highest ranked Freestyle wrestler in the country for his age and division, for 7 consecutive years (between the ages of 12 and 20). Denham traded wrestling for MMA just over a year ago and debuted with losses against Anthony Taylor and then, Rab Truesdale, before going on to notch up 4 wins. His contribution to his community in the form of teaching wrestling to local youths saw him earn the privilege of carrying the 2012 Olympic torch through his hometown of Darlington.
Keddles and MMA Den fighter, Mike ‘The Nightmare’ Neun walks into the BAMMA cage with a record of 3-1-0. Coming from a Muay Thai background of 6 years, Neun has earned the following titles: The ISKA Southern Area Muay Thai title, the ISKA Southern Area Semi Pro/Amateur MMA title and the Fight Scene Pro MMA title. His last fight at BAMMA 10 saw him caught with an unfortunate 8 second KO at the hands of Sam Mensah, who is also returning to the cage for BAMMA 11.
Denham said:
“I’m feeling great about fighting on BAMMA. It’s a huge step up and I’m ready to take it. I believe it’s going to be a great fight and whether I win via submission, KO or TKO, one thing is for sure….. I’m going to win. The fans can expect a great show and a good fight. I’ll be leaving my all in there. My message to BAMMA fans is: Don’t miss it!”
Mike Neun said:
“What can I say? I’ll be ready for the fight and I’ll be ready for Thomas. I got stopped early in my last fight and I’m ready for working the hardest I’ve ever worked leading up to this. I’m ready for vengeance. I’m ready for an out and out war if Thomas brings it. I’ve got big respect for Thomas as he’s tough, but The Nightmare is coming and there’ll be no waking up!”
Fisher vs. Vital
Hailing from the North East, Andrew Fisher started his career at Lightweight and brings a record of 10-4-1 and a spate of 1st round finishes. His few losses have come against fighters that include Martin Stapleton and Paul Sass; while his one draw was against Daniel Thomas. With the majority of his victories via submission and the Supremacy Fight Challenge Lightweight title to his name, Fisher’s last contest saw him drop to Featherweight to defeat Danny Welsh. Fisher’s spar partners include names such as Phil De Fries, Andy Ogle and Curt Warburton and he has recently signed with G4 MMA Fighters management.
Fighting out of London Fight Factory, Brazilian Diego Vital (9-3-0) can also boast that none of his wins have gone the distance; as 8 of his 9 wins have come via 1st round submission, and 7 of the 9 via Rear Naked Choke. Like Fisher, Vitals’ few losses have come at the hands of challenging opponents and include a Split Decision loss to Tim Newman at BAMMA 5 and a 3rd round loss to Rob Sinclair at BAMMA 7.
Andrew Fisher said:
“Thank you to BAMMA for having me on the show: I’m really looking forward to the chance to show BAMMA fans what I can do. Diego is an extremely tough fight for anyone in the Featherweight division and his grappling is excellent; but I don’t think he’s as well rounded as me and I think that’ll be why I’ll have the advantage. I am expecting this fight to go the distance.”
BAMMA’s Head of Talent Relations, Jude Samuel, said:
“Denham versus Neun brings your classic Striker-Wrestler match-up, as both fighters have proved themselves to be among the best in their respective disciplines. Neun got caught early by Mensah at BAMMA 10 and hasn’t yet got to show BAMMA fans what an exceedingly exciting and ruthless striker he is. Now he’s hungry for the win and I fully expect him to 100% bring the fight. Denham is great for the division as he brings exemplary wrestling into the mix, which is a stand-out skill for a British fighter. I honestly can’t wait for this and completely expect fans to be on the edge of their seats.
“Fisher versus Vital showcases two fighters with a spectrum of experience and a history of first round finishes; and both guys have faced some gruelling opponents. Vital’s making his comeback and will be looking to make his mark at BAMMA 11 but Fisher is every part the challenge. I guarantee this will be one exciting, exciting match!”
