Brock Lesnar could have a lot of things working against him when he climbs into the cage tonight for UFC 116 – a long layoff, possible lingering effects of a career-threatening disease, his most dangerous challenger to date and the concentrated hatred of all the good and decent people of the world, just to name a few. With so much already on his plate, it was a little weird earlier this week when Lesnar disclosed that he used some of the extra time off he had while recovering from that hole God put in his stomach lining to switch from an orthodox striking stance to southpaw for his fight with Shane Carwin.

Maybe it’s the smirk on Lesnar’s face during the opening seconds of the above video, but it’s hard not to wonder: Is Brock just fucking with us? Does he really intend to try to fight Carwin as a lefty tonight? Or is this just some gamesmanship on the part of the former WWE wrestler?

I can break down the UFC 116 heavyweight championship match between Brock Lesnar and Shane Carwin stylistically (in fact, I’ll do just that), but that’s not going to really determine who’s better. One man could be superior than the other in every category but one, but if the latter can use that one big weapon to better effect, that might be all he needs to win. Such is the case of heavyweight fighting, when one big punch could supercede everything that comes before it.

But not everyone thinks Lesnar vs. Carwin absolutely determines the top spot in the heavyweight division. Former UFC heavyweight champion Josh Barnett and UFC commentator Joe Rogan both made recent comments in which they said the top of the heavyweight division isn’t quite as clear as it might seem.

In the main event, Brock Lesnar and Shane Carwin will both have to make the heavyweight limit of 265 pounds. Most heavyweights come in comfortably under 265, but both Lesnar and Carwin are behemoths who are expected to come in right at the limit. The weigh-in will also give UFC fans a good chance to see how Lesnar looks after a serious illness caused him to take a year away from the Octagon.

The weigh-in starts at 7 PM ET on Friday and the video is below.

LAS VEGAS — For the first time, it seems tangible, reachable. Brock Lesnar and Shane Carwin are licensed, weighed and ready to rumble at UFC 116.

After two postponements, an illness and an interim title bout, the two biggest and best heavyweights in the UFC squared off after weighing in at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on Friday night.

First off, let’s get a couple things out of the way. Carwin is at least an inch shorter than Lesnar. They looked the same height during the customary face-off because Carwin put his sneakers on beforehand. Second, Lesnar’s official weight is indeed 265. While some believe that Nevada state athletic commission rep Keith Kizer motioned 264 and announcer Joe Rogan misspoke, MMA Fighting confirmed with Kizer that 265 is indeed the official weight.
