UFC middleweight contender Darren Till sent a powerful message to troubled youth in his community in light of a recent tragedy in Liverpool.

Professional athletes often take the opportunity to use their platforms to improve their locale, and Till is no different. Nine years after suffering a brutal stabbing, he took the time to encourage children to turn to outlets such as MMA instead of a life of crime.

“9 years ago today I was stabbed twice in the back of my ribs,” Till posted on Instagram. “The great city of Liverpool has recently been shook up by the tragic death of the young and beautiful Ava White. Put down the knives, kids and ask ur mums and dads to take you or take yourselves down to the local gyms. Best thing you will ever do is step foot into a gym with a nice healthy environment and a good mentor in and out of the gym. You won’t regret it.”

Darren Till Continues To Inspire Others In His Hometown

Till has become quite the fan-favorite since making his UFC debut back in 2015. He’s well-known for his comedic social media presence but also takes the time to engage with his fans and leave an impact in his community.

Hundreds of Liverpool residents gathered in the city this weekend for a vigil for stabbing victim Ava White, a 12-year-old schoolgirl. The investigation into the tragic incident is ongoing.

Till is looking to get back in the win column in the Octagon after losing four of his last five fights overall. He most recently fell to Derek Brunson at UFC Vegas 36 by submission, later alleging that he had suffered a devastating knee injury just weeks before the fight.

It’s unclear as to when Till will return to fighting as he continues to get his health in order, but he’s currently using the time off to make a positive impact in his city.

Darren Till was in a reflective mood earlier today as he marked the ninth anniversary of the day he was stabbed.

Till’s home city of Liverpool like much of the United Kingdom continues to struggle with knife crime.

On November 25, a 12-year-old called Ava White was stabbed and killed in the city.

The shocking death was clearly at the forefront of Till’s mind when he reflected on the anniversary of his near-death experience.

“9 years ago today I was stabbed twice in the back of my ribs,” Till wrote on Instagram alongside a picture of him in a hospital bed.

“The great city of Liverpool has recently been shook up by the tragic death of the young & beautiful AVA White.

“Put down the knives kids & ask ur mums & dads to take you or take yourselves down to the local gyms.

“Best thing you will ever do is step foot into a gym with a nice healthy environment and a good mentor in & outside of the gym.
Who knows maybe you might make a career out of it…
That is my advice to any of the young kids out their reading this.

Darren Till Linked Up With Leon Edwards & Jimi Manuwa To Combat Knife Crime

On May 1, 2020, the three British fighters took to social media to announce they were joining forces to help combat knife crime in their home nation.

“COVID19 is not the only crisis in the UK currently,” Till wrote on Twitter. “We must take a stand against Knife crime that is devastating our communities. Me, @POSTERBOYJM & @Leon_edwardsmma all faced the same issues growing up & we have come together to help our own cities.”

Uriah Hall Calls Out Darren Till Again After Receiving No Response

Uriah Hall, Darren Till

UFC middleweight Uriah Hall has continued to set his sights on fellow 185-pound contender Darren Till for his next Octagon appearance.

Hall, who’s been in the world’s leading MMA promotion since a defeat to Kelvin Gastelum in The Ultimate Fighter 17 middleweight final, has consistently fallen short of title contention, and is considered one of the most prominent former future stars who haven’t managed to make their mark.

After going 1-4 between 2015 and 2018, a period which included defeats to current top fives Robert Whittaker, Derek Brunson, and Paulo Costa, Hall mounted another surge towards the top. He built a four-fight winning streak that saw him defeat Bevon Lewis, Antônio Carlos Júnior, and Anderson Silva.

After a gruesome broken leg gave him the victory over Chris Weidman earlier this year, Hall was matched up with rising contender Sean Strickland. The pair faced off in the main event of UFC Vegas 33 in July. Across five rounds, “Tarzan” dominated “Prime Time” and secured a comfortable unanimous decision win.

Hall Wants “The Gorilla” Next

Despite a hefty setback keeping him at the back-end of the divisional top 10 and a sizable step away from title contention, Hall remains eager to get back into the Octagon and back into the win column. In a tweet earlier this month, the Jamaican-born American called out another middleweight coming off a devastating loss.

“@darrentill2 wanna do a backyard fight in your hometown,” wrote Hall.

Till, who made the move up to 185 pounds from welterweight in 2019, headlined the European-flavored UFC Vegas 36 card against Brunson in September this year. The Liverpudlian was largely dominated throughout and tapped to a rear-naked choke in the third round.

With both Till and Hall looking to bounce back, the matchup appears to make sense. However, the 37-year-old has been met with silence from “The Gorilla,” something which has drawn out a second call out. Taking to Instagram, Hall reminded Till that it’s been 13 days since he first challenged him.

“It’s day number 13 still no word from @darrentill2”

Like Hall, Till was tipped for greatness early in his career. After falling short of the 170-pound gold against Tyron Woodley and being knocked out for the first time by Jorge Masvidal, “The Gorilla” looked to pursue a new title. A divisional debut win against Gastelum in 2019 put him on the right track, but losses to Brunson and Whittaker since have put the Englishman’s career in limbo.

It stands to reason Till will be eager to get back into form against another fighter coming off a loss, especially a veteran like Hall. With that in mind, it’s hard to see Till not responding to the 37-year-old’s callouts sooner or later.

Darren Till is impressed with Khamzat Chimaev and has accepted Borz’s offer to train together.

Over the past couple of months, Till and Chimaev have joked around with one another. They did an Instagram Live where they joke they would fight one another and both of them said they’d smash the other. Chimaev also offered to train Till, and after seeing the Swede’s win over Li Jingliang, Till was convinced.

Not only does Till think Chimaev is the real deal, he also thinks the Swede should fight Gilbert Burns next.

“Khamzat is the real deal. He’s very good. Is he as good as he thinks or as people say? I don’t know. Is he going to be a world-beater? I don’t know,” Till said on Michael Bisping’s podcast (via Sportskeeda). “Like I would actually want to get out there and do some training with him or him come to me. I think he’s a legitimate contender. But Gilbert Burns is a monster. That’s a good fight. That’s a very good fight.”

Although some have been critical of Chimaev’s quality of opponents as he has only fought one ranked opponent. However, for Darren Till, he says that is not Khamzat Chimaev’s fault, as not many ranked welterweights want to fight him.

“This is what I hate a lot of people for saying, ‘Oh, well, he only fought this guy, this guy.’ What do you want us to do? Do you want us to put Khamzat straight in with the top guys? People have to grow and people have to learn. That’s just the way it is,” Till said.

Darren Till is coming off a submission loss to Derek Brunson back in September. It was his second loss in a row after dropping a decision to Robert Whittaker back in July of 2020 in a highly-anticipated bout.

Chimaev’s offer to train Till was made in an effort to help Till improve his wrestling skills. Chimaev’s wrestling ability was on display over the weekend in a match against Jack Hermansson in which Chimaev was victorious.

Do you agree with Darren Till’s assessment of Khamzat Chimaev?

Sean Strickland has shut down talk about a potential fight between him and Darren Till after the Englishman suggested they could headline the UFC’s return to the UK in March 2022.

Speaking on the podcast of former UFC middleweight champion and fellow Englishman Michael Bisping, Till revealed that he asked for a fight with Jared Cannonier before the UFC sent him a list of potential opponents that included Strickland.

“Listen, the UFC, they told me, ‘hey Darren, let us know when do you want to fight because we are waiting on you. You’re always there for us, you’re always ready to fight anyone, anytime’ so I said Jared Cannonier is a good one and they said ‘oh really? Jared already.?’ So they offered a few fights, and one fight I really liked was Sean Strickland,” Till said. “I’ve actually seen Sean Strickland a few times and I said to Sean, “do you know if you want to get it on sometime, we can do it because I think you’re a really good fighter.”

‘The Gorilla’ is coming off back-to-back losses and is 1-4 in his last five fights. In contrast, Strickland has looked exemplary since moving to middleweight and has picked up five consecutive wins.

Sean Strickland Wants Paulo Costa Or Jack Hermansson Next

Strickland took to social media to publicly rule himself out of a fight with Till while calling for a bout against either Paulo Costa or Jack Hermansson.

“Instagram blocked me, joked about a pedophile dying and I guess they didn’t like it lol!!!!” Strickland tweeted. “Anyways I’m not fighting Darren Till. I want (Paulo) Costa and if Costa can’t put down the wine and cookies I want Jack (Hermansson).”

Costa like Till is riding a two-fight losing streak after falling short against Israel Adesanya and Marvin Vettori. ‘The Joker’ may have lost to Khamzat Chimaev recently but that was an exhibition wrestling match and he is currently enjoying a winning run inside the UFC Octagon.
